If you compare to Denmark, of course it is cheaper. But the wages in Denmark are 10 times higher. So pricing in Riga is far from reasonable.

I like whites...and from Setubal, so JP is the best buy, always around 2,5€. Vale dos Barris also good, 2€.

Lisbon region also has lovely wines, I like Prova Regia, around 2,8€.

As for red wines, the good ol' Alentejano Chaminé is a good buy, many times can them with discount at PD or Continente by around 2,5€. Or you can get the amazing Evel from Douro region at around 4,5€...

I am now drinking a 5€ italian crap in my Kiev balcony...how I miss our wine...and the only thing I can buy here is our overpriced crap, Mateus or Gazela also by 5€ a bottle.

I think tomorrow I will have to buy a Gazela, still a better deal.

But well...I wish all problems in life would be like mine though. My prayers to the soul of our 62 dead countrymen and also to the wellbeing of all the firefighters and rescue teams at Pedrogão fighting the flames...what a tragedy, just saw it now.

I'll add to this rather than create a new sheet-

Good news- sounds like the days of stag parties may be weaning. I didn't see any in a week, and the locals all mentioned it hadn't been bad this summer. In comparison to Tallinn, I didn't like it as much overall. It was a bit more touristy and there are a bunch of annoying people promoting strip clubs and tourist scams. Racism def an issue here as well. All said, still a fan of the city.

Most girls you meet out with be locals or girls from countries around here. The ratio of guys vacationing here is higher.

Bars to check out-
Aussie Pub- cheap, gonna be a bunch of tourists but some locals will be mixed in.

Cartel- Happy hour 2x1 cocktails 12-1. The roulette wheel finishes on either 14/20 if you want to win a bet for free drinks. Mix of tourists and locals.

Shot Cafe- happy hour 1-2. 2x1 cocktails and 3/2 shots. Mix of tourists and locals.

Rock Cafe- awesome place, gets busy later. Has basically everything you could want, live music, karaoke, dance floor, pool room, the place is massive, maybe 10 rooms or so. Great place to be outside later at night for gutter game as well.

Folk Ala Club wasn't too busy the Thursday I was there, but the place across the street had a beer pong tournament. Bad ratio but no toursists.

Funny Fox does karaoke every night I think. Seems like it should be touristy but it was mostly locals.

One One club- hipsterish but decent quality. They only are open certain days so check the Facebook. Wednesday's are good there. There are also. Piens is also good on Wednesday.

Teritorija is the go to after hours spot. Good cocktails. Won't get busy until 4am or so and might be only Fri and Sat.

I stayed at the Naughty Squirrel. It was a good mix between nice hostel and party hostel. 24/7 social room and bar and nightly planned events. They weren't too strict with guests since I had a private, but I wouldn't bet on it. It was ~35 euros for the private per night.

Food- Kas Darza was a cool BBQ place close to old town. For cheap, there is a buffet style bistro across from KFC that you can chow down for like 4 duros. You can also do kebabs for ~3 euros.

Drinks- drinks were in the ~6 euro range.

Day game- if you walk from St. Peter's church down Krisjana Barona from 4-8pm there is endless talent. In August there is a food festival every Wednesday at Kalnciema kvartāls. Girls are pretty friendly here overall in both day and night game. The guys are passive similar to Tallinn. English is good, but still 50/50 as native language.

Overall my friend is 1/2 (Estonian) and I'm 2/3(Latvians) in my single nights out. One night left. Don't give up on the nightlife too early, it can take until 2am to get going.

I’m thinking of doing a quick stopover in Riga, before going back to Vilnius once summer holidays are over.

@azulsombra- similar to Tallinn. Being black in these countries would be ideal. They have no filter on the issue and many of the girls wouldn't even considering being seen with black person. They'll use the N word a bit as well. I'd say it's not as bad for other races. You'll also see the occasional Swastica tattoo around town.

There's no racism in Riga towards black. Maybe there's some against Russians.

FYI piens is a place where only Latvian Latvians go. You wont find any Russian speaking girls there. Russian-Latvians are prettier, Latvian-Latvians like foreigners more, on average.

I went to Piens a few weeks ago and found it lacking to be honest. It was on a Thursday, rather than a Wednesday, so perhaps the day of the week does really matter, though I fail to see why it should make much difference on a workday. The place is not close to the Old Town at all and even for locals it is somewhat out of the way. I have been living in Riga for a year, and before that a month here and there as well. Piens is the place to be on Wednesday (and only Wednesday), but it still can be hit or miss if it is not summer. That being said, old town will be worse on that day. Craziest night is Friday, Saturday is tamer, but I might have even got laid more on that day.
Never go to early. I go out late and stay late (say 2-5, give or take).

Was in Riga recently for 2 nights, here are my impressions:

-the old town is very nice, combined with the river it reminded me of Budapest, definitely nicer than Vilnius
-didn't see any stag parties roaming around, only huge groups of pensioners (European and Asian), I guess they're all in Russia for the world cup
-can be quite expensive depending where you go, a lunch menu can range from 10 to 20 euro, beer from 2.5 to 5 euro, better to check the reviews, overall expect Western Europe prices
-same goes for accommodation, it can cost 100 euro or more to rent a decent flat in the center on a weekend, last minute availability can be quite low, apparently there is a lot of demand in the summer
-sun sets very late, you get almost 24h daylight
-very attractive girls, lots of green/blue eyes, natural blonde hair, slim and tall, obesity is non existent
-not as friendly as neighboring Lithuania, waiters can sometimes give you bad looks as if you're disturbing them
-Latvian girls are a bit paranoid, they will shit test a lot, they also hate Russians, if you're Russian then maybe skip it
-although during my first night I was at a private party organized by a local, I mostly interacted with a Belorussian girl, now I really want to visit Minsk
-Russian girls are more friendly but speak very poor English (at least the ones I met at the bar)
-for bars I recommend Cafe Leningrad and Cuba Cafe (they have salsa here), also heard that Skyline on the Radisson Hotel is quite good, didn't go to any clubs
-don't expect any local events, sites like Meetup were dead, no expat presence
-for daygame I recommend the park that surrounds the old town (where the Freedom Monument is located), I saw plenty of girls in groups of 2 or 3 sitting on the benches and chatting
-didn't notice any scams going on, nobody approached me to sell drugs or invite me to some shady club
-got almost zero attention on Tinder
