Back to normality after living the high life in SE Asia

Back in Jakarta I was living a great lifestyle- enjoying the cheap cost of living, buffet of girls on offer and generally being high in the social ladder. If you see some of my other posts- I managed to get lays on top of a volcano, in a swimming pool, my apartment rooftop and even on my boss' desk.

Now I'm back in the UK I feel like my energy and passion has gone- I'm not the same person as i was when i was back out there. This energy and passion I had lead to me getting successful with plenty of girls but now i can't do that here.

I'm thinking it was down to the 'white God' foreigner status which gave me such a confidence boost and was great for my ego. We all know that confidence gets girls but back in the UK and starting Uni i don't have this same sense of value and i just feel like an average guy with nothing going for me.

I used Tinder a lot when i was in Jakarta but don't really want to do that here at uni cos i'll end up getting recognized and i don't want that lol. I've joined the cycling society but there's not many girls in that- thinking of joining other societies just to increase my chances of meeting other people. The issue is just when chatting to people i feel a lack in energy and motivation- and i also just feel like im a boring person because of it. I often don't know what to say to others.

I feel like i'm coming into some sort of lull like depression which i want to avoid. My plan is to keep myself busy- avoid spending too much time in my room. Everyone's idea of uni seems to be getting drunk and going wild where as i'm not really into this lifestyle. My aim at the moment is to find a good bunch of friends and also a girlfriend who I can have regular sex with/ watch movies and head into town, go to the beach- meals etc...

I've just gone and emptied my thoughts on this post- not totally sure what my question is or aim of this post is- just wanted to share and see if any of you guys are in this or have been in this situation before.

Do you guys even bother to do searches anymore? Bump old threads, stop making new ones.

I do sympathize with you as I have often felt the same way. Living in my hometown sucks dick, but there is work and loose ends to be tied up before I can fuck off. Rearrange your priorities accordingly. It can be a great motivator.

Maine and Canadian lobsters are the same animal. Prove me wrong.

You're going from the third world back to the first.

Yes there are thousands of inbred fat Brits who are obese, but their counterparts in SEA are probably living in slum like conditions and borderline illiterate.

You feel average because you are average.

If you were living somewhere near Central London with x 3 average cash you would have access to some of the best gigs, bars, restaurants and clubs the world has to offer. Your peer group would be intelligent, charismatic, highly articulate and in shape.

Everything is relative. Your status in Philippines as some university enrolled middle class British citizen is way above the average there. In UK a uni student such as yourself is at the bottom of the social pecking order (unless you at Oxbridge or other highly reputable unis). Uni students in UK are pretty much a mass of debt slaves open to rape from landlords and govts with little prospect of doing well financially unless they play their cards very well (or the right connections). Best of luck man.

Yeah man. It is depressing but use it to motivate yourself to be that 1/1000 that rises above it all.

Don't think emotionally,

1) analyze market forces in social, sexual, career, financial, and other cultural factors. Maybe you like living in a city with a good symphony, or surfboarding. Or extremely thin girls, or girls with big asses.

2) Analyze you own initial starting point as to how you are valued in market terms-- height age intellect money, personality style- and, importantly , how those values might change relative to the environment you are in . I was the bomb in 1993 Russia, now I'd be an old broke has been-- relatively. I'm not in Russia anymore.

3) Decide what you want , what aspects of life are important to you, and what you can/want to change based on relative market value assessments.
Analyze the opportunity costs of following plan A versus plan B. For example, medical school versus network security training. I stumbled onto a state job and ended up with a small pension I am now spending in a cheap country.

4) Change something. Make ton of cash if you like London , or become location independent if you prefer more affordable Asia. EXECUTE your plan. Easy to have an idea, very hard to do the thousands of successive on-goal actions to make it real. I love the Marine Corps motto, "Adapt and overcome." Accepts that conditions change during execution right from the beginning.

5) Smugly tell everyone else what to do like I'm doing now. I'm not rich but I know every day when I wake up I can do exactly what I want with every minute of that day.

Yeah he's on the money above.

Be extremely analytical about social, economic and political realities. If you can cut through the bullshit you'll see the UK has a lot of strengths but it is definitely fucked if you're "the average 20 year old person".

Fundamentally, don't be average.

Cash is king, be optimistic about yourself, be confident in your ability to acquire any skills you deem necessary, think about what qualifications from uni would straight up hand you a very good set of cards. Tell yourself you are exceptional, then prove it to others. Do you want to be able to switch locations easily ? What will enable you to do that, follow through on your ideas and work out what the next step is as though you're playing chess.

If I had my time again I would study geology (oil & gas or gold, platinum, zinc, rare earth minerals, etc) at somewhere like Dundee in Scotland and then get a background in finance (equity raising) at somewhere like the LSE / Imperial / Warwick. Then you will make millions on advising and facilitating massive commodity deals that will never go out of fashion no matter how much the world changes in next 20-30 years and you can ply your trade around the world.

Maybe you have different plans at uni. Open to hearing them

I'm currently studying in the UK earning a degree that will get me to work overseas on international development/ business projects.

With my course I can go on exchange next year to one of the many partner universities on offer.

In choosing this university, among other factors, I'm looking at the cost of living and also girls on offer.

Unfortunately the pussy paradises aren't on the list (Thailand, Philippines, Jakarta etc.) BUT there are a few EE countries that look tempting...

Wraclow, Poland
Vilnius, Lithuania
Budapest, Hungary
Dobrich, Bulgaria

Would like to know what you guys think..

If you like SEA, why are you bothering racking up a bunch of debt?

It's 2016. You don't need a degree. You don't even need a job.

Save your cash. Spend $15 on a copy of "The Four Hour Work Week" by Tim Ferris, read it, apply it, move to SEA and enjoy your life.

Come back in 2 years when you've done this, thank me, and leave me a rep point for good measure.

You're welcome.

I've spent 2 years travelling, doing a bit of internet marketing- its great fun and exciting but for the long term- its just not for me. For my chosen career and what i want to do in life I need a degree.

The student finance system works a bit differently here in the UK compared to in the US. We don't have to pay back any money until we earn over £21K/year. And we pay back 10% of whatever we earn over that amount. It's not actually as bad as some people (especially the media) make out.

Ok. So you would rather be in the UK getting a degree. That's fine too.

I was just pointing out that if you like being in SEA, there are a lot of ways to stay living there and enjoying a comfortable life WITHOUT a degree or even job.

If you're set on a job, but like SEA, definitely get something that allows you to be mobile long-term. You need something that will allow you to telecommute. This is outside my area of expertise. I'm firmly in the "never get a job" camp.

I quite enjoyed being in the office environment for 6 months in Jakarta. I enjoyed seeing my friends everyday and it didn't feel like a chore. I guess this could be different if you were in a serious office with irritating people/ high pressure environment.
