I remember not too long ago meeting someone who basically has shithaus genes, i.e. those that manifest themselves strongly enough to get a condition named after them. Really there are no discrete "conditions". The genes as a body have just deviated from the healthly center due to a lack of what keeps them there.

This dude was just so depressing to witness. It was just so dark and sad. I've complained bitterly before about common genetic defects that I possess, and dudes like this really put it into perspective. This guy will guaranteed never fuck a woman without paying a lot for it in cash. He'll never have a good life. And yet the poor fucker will go on struggling, trying to do something to escape his born-nightmare, as he was when I met him, and will never succeed. Really badly affected me that day -- I'm firmly in the self improvement camp and seeing no-hopers like that, who are already having death knocking at their door at such a young age, was horrible.

So something needs to be done culturally. This shit, genetic degeneration, is only going to get worse. Many here complain about hypergamy, but that's one of the few things that actually hold this shit naturally at bay. If not that, and if not "3rd parent genes", what else is going to hold it in check? Gattaca certainly isn't on the horizon, and everybody in the west would rather play the "genes mean nothing" lying game.

Unfortunately, thanks to those arseholes called the Nazis, for which we can also thank for 21st century pervasive leftism, any talk of general population genetics has been purged from the table. The left will do nothing but deny, and the right will do nothing but speak about "god" and "unnatural".

Something has to be done. If not direct genetic modifications (which I also feel is wrong), then something else of some kind. Gattaca style liberal eugenics etc. Nobody deserves to live like some of these bastards.

While I still think we're messing with nature, that is pretty amazing we've come so far that we can actually do this.

But making this mainstream just means more humans and more population increase in the world.

Maybe I'm just worried about the big picture, BUT if this is purely for weeding out disease - well I can live with that.

So basically mitochondria were always "separate"from our"main" DNA anyway. These scientist took out "faulty" DNA and replaced it with"good" DNA from a third party. Theoretically in nature this already occurred millions of years ago when prokaryotic cells became endosymbionts with eukaryotic cells within our ancestors becoming mitochondria-only now it is being replicated in a lab(it is analogous to switching out a faulty catalytic converter in a car if you get my drift ).

There is nothing sinister or nefarious afoot here, just a huge scientific breakthrough being implemented clinically for the greater good of mankind. I for one, as a Geneticist and future practicing Physician, am thrilled at the prospect of less infantile subacute necrotizing encephalomyelopathy(Leigh Disease) and possibly no more genetic mitochondrial disorders ever. If all genetic mitochondrial disease go the way of Polio, I am good with that.
