Busking can be done with anything, even yourself.
If you can play an instrument or believe(whether you actually can) you can sing a killer or acceptable acapella go for it.
If you are an actual musician see it as being paid for practicing on the street with an audience,which in turn trains your showmanship/sales skill.
If you can balance your expenses - as in not burn it ALL on booze and/or hard drugs and/or absurdly expensive bullshit/eco label/organic/fairtrade/gay food and are willing to lower your accomodation (if any) standards you can work out an interesting profit.
I think it ultimately boils down to salesmanship, it doesnt matter the product that you sell but the way you sell it,which I think makes an important part of Game.
