I am trying to arrange a two week vacation to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan for September. One of the things they require for the visa applications is a "Letter of Invitation". How does one get one of those if one is just a tourist? Also, are there any tricks or gotchas to getting legal permission to visit these places that I am missing?
"Letters of Invitation" and Central Asia Visas - need help
There are travel agencies which provide this service. Google them.
I was in India when I got my Uzbekistan Visa. I called the Uzbekistan Embassy in Delhi and got instructions. It ended up being a big hassle and took 14 days to get. It cost 9000 rupees (200 USD).
My American friend got his Uzbekistan Visa using a visa agency in the USA. He got their expedited service and they got it done pretty fast (less than a week), but it was expensive (maybe 300 USD?).
Keep in mind, you have to hand over your passport so that they can put the Uzbekistan Visa in there.
