Any of you guys use Digestive Enzymes?

I purchased Digest Gold and take like 1-2 pills a day. 1 pill before a big meal. It's been around for years and is a pretty popular brand, but I'm not really sure if its helping me or not (It might be the placebo effect). My Gastroenterologist, who is a very knowledgeable guy and is neither anti-supplement or a pill-pusher said that Digestive Enzymes are kind of a waste of time and not necessary, and could be potentially dangerous. He's cool with probiotics though.

Have you guys used Digestive Enzymes of any kind? What do you think about them? What is a good all-natural alternative to using a Digestive Enzyme?

Any help would be appreciated.

All natural alternative, pineapple and kiwis are a good start

If you take moderate to large amounts of protein and work out hard they are advantageous. They are not a necessity but from a comfort stand point they reduce the negative sides of heavy protein intake and there's been some studies done saying it can help reduce inflammation from working out. At worst they're not a negative and you'll get something out of them. More than you can say for most supps. I definitely use them.

I would just eat greek yoghurt to be honest. No point in using pills when you can get your macros meet as well as pumping in useful gut bacteria.

I'm curious how probiotics survive the hydrochloric acid of the stomach.

Since I've started using a good quality probiotic I'm definitely feeling more regular. I follow a high protein / moderate fat / low carb diet, which definitely messes with my insides.

If you go with a probiotic that has "active live cultures", make sure to get them from a place that COLD SHIPS from manufacturer to store, and you keep it in the fridge once you get home. The product becomes less effective once it sits at room temp for an extended period of time.
