Of course, but getting regularly tested catches them.

False positives are more common.

Of course it's possible. Of course, HIV won't show up on a lab test until 6 to 12 months after infection. Sometimes even more. Also, be sure to ask your doctor for an IgG and a IgM antibody test for every bacterial std.

IgG= identifies that you had it sometime in the past.
IgM= antibodies that respond initially to the infection

I may just be over reacting to a zit on my shaft. Seems like it is a more "all over" thing right?

I'm saying a few zits / ingrown hairs should be easy to tell apart from an 'outbreak'?

My mistake, 12 (6-12) weeks. However, information is conflicting. I know a few doctors and they all have told me that it is necessary to take a test 6 months and 12 months after exposure, just to be on the safe side.

Still, it won't appear if you have sex today and draw blood next week. Unless you get an antigen test (DNA PCR) which *could* detect it starting 17 hours after infection, but it's more accurate after two weeks. DNA test are very expensive.

However, that's just the average time. Every body is different. So while you may develop antibodies in a few weeks, there are people who may take months, or years.

I haven't seen herpes, but it's supposed to cause pain. You can take a blood test for hsv1 and hsv1 IgG and IgM and you'll know if you have herpes

If you wanna be 100% sure, go to your doctor , ask for a lab test and show him the are. He or she should know and a dr is the only one who can diagnose it

The old tests took up to 12 months. Now within a month you should be 90% certain.

Always better to be safe. See a doctor. A few years ago in Peru I had a scare. At the time I had yet to discover the wonder of a bikini trimmer for my pubes, and was using my Mach 3 blade, and it would shave to the skin, but frequently I would get what looked like zits/ingrown hairs.
So, when I started to get a few more than normal, I didn't think much of it.
A couple more weeks go by, and it got worse.
I was terrified I had herpes, and thought I was finally paying the price for being a male slut with a passion for raw dogging.
I go to the doctor and get diagnosed with Molluscum contagiosum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molluscum_contagiosum).
The good news - it was curable and not a lifelong chronic condition. The bad news - the treatment involved using a electric cauterizing gun to zap every single little zit, which covered my pubic area and dick. Even after having local anesthetic injected all around and into my johnson, it hurt like a motherfucker.
I sort of learned my lesson, and am more careful about the girls I will bang without a condom. I know I shouldn't do it at all, but its one vice I cant ever wean myself off of.
Point is, get checked out, it might be nothing, or it might be something curable.

I got a pimple looking thing on my dick head about 2 yrs ago. I want to say it was there for a couple days. It went away before I could go to a doctor but it hasn't come back. I'm still worried about that shit.

Do most std's have some sort of symptoms? I was surprised when I hit up planned parenthood a few months ago and tested negative for everything.

No, unless you are hemophiliac most people who get the Monster sero convert(HIV antibodies in the blood) in 21 days after exposure. Can you provide a link where a HIV positive non hemophiliac will test negative 6 months to 12 months after exposure? Also, most people get flu like symptoms/rash within 24 hours up to a week after exposure.

NYC STD clinics centers(I suspect other cities as well) do free DNA PCR testing. They used to do it to everybody but because of budget cuts now they only do it if you specifically ask for it. It can detect the virus 48 hours after exposure. Its the same test they do to rape victims. As far as I am aware they don't ask you to get tested again after getting a negative result from DNA PCR. Fortunately, the days of worrying for months whether you got the monster after Anally rawdogging that club slut are behind us.

The problem is that you'd need a more expensive PCR test to diagnose it. Probably not a problem in US if you pay, but outside you'd likely only get ELISA, and it is not reliable before three months passed. Some people also get false positives with ELISA and had to do western blot which also takes a while.

While in Thailand I've seen the autonomous HIV tests, similar to pregnancy testers. Wonder how reliable those are, and why don't we have those on sale here in US?
