I did a thorough search here and could not find anything on subject of openers better suited for situations when you visit a country for less than a month and can not help giving away the fact that you are a tourist (don't know places, names of streets etc.)
I do understand that normal openers will still work but I can't help feeling strange asking for where the pet store is if I am in a place for a week, I don't have a cat and I am not planning to buy one (no offence, it is a great openers under different circumstances).
I will start with one perfectly simple opener for travelers. Very indirect.
Ask a girl to make a photo of you next to some view, start a conversation when she gives back your phone. You can say "did you read my messages?", or simply elaborate on you being a traveler, DHV by telling about all the great places you've been to, tell her how much you like this place and ask her to give you advice where to take your next photo and try to instadate her.
