I remember that scene the first time I've seen the film. Honestly, it made me squirm a little.

I've been in a couple of situations before where a young girl came onto me. One time the girl was 11 and another time the girl was 13. In both of those cases I was either 19 or 20 so I probably looked like I was still a young teenager, but they knew how old I was. Then there was another time where I worked with this lady and knew her husband as well. They basically offered their 16 year old daughter up to me because she mentioned she "liked" me and they thought I was a great guy.

I did hook up with the 13 year old because she told me she was 16 and she was hot. I figured it's just a few years difference so it's cool. I found out later through her mom that she was really 13, but her mom was okay with the situation. I wasn't so I promptly broke things off.

Interestingly enough the 11 year old I haven't seen in years and I run into she and her mom when she's about 16. They invite me into their new place because they're moving into the same neighborhood I live in. We sit around and talk and boy did this girl BLOSSOM. I brought up that I remember when she was 11 most times she would act nasty towards me and she responded with "Duh, it's because I had a crush on you." right in front of her mother. And with her mother right there she goes on about how she's single and asking me if I want to hang out and stuff, and giving me those eyes. I didn't act on it out of conscience. Plus I really had a thing for older women at the time so it wasn't really my cup of tea.

Now here's the thing. During that time a lot of my friends were hooking up with these high school girls we called the Spice Girls. There was one black one, a cute red head (which was the stupid one), the smart one, and the one that's got the adventurous streak. Now we're all about 22-24 while this is going on. At first I didn't like the idea at all because of all the trouble that could be coming assoicating with girls like that. But my views on it changed slightly after these girls stayed in long term relationships with my friends. At first I was convinced it was the guys with the young pussy fetish thing, and the girls had the this guy can buy beer thing going on. Maybe it was that in the begining, but a few of these lasted a couple of years.

The odd thing now is that I'm approaching 30 and I find myself actually thinking that some teenaged girls are kind of hot. I think the problem I'm seeing is that women start to go down hill when they hit their mid 20's. Now would I ever consider hooking up with a girl that young? No. But I can see why some guys would. Most times they're easy prey, and they don't have the same expectations an older woman has. And they put more stock into keeping up their looks because they're at that age where they want the attention.

Also I want to point out that even though the age of consent may be some number that doesn't mean you can't go to jail for something. That's why there are other laws such as Contributing to the Deliquincy of a Minor that states use to put someone in jail that doesn't qualify for a statuatory rape charge.

Trotter: In medical malpractice a doctor is more likely to get sued if he isn't empathetic with his patient's concerns, or even says he's sorry. I think if you leave the young girl with a bad taste in her mouth, enough to want to get revenge, there could be repercussions. As long as you treat her relatively well, why would she want to involve the legal system? I haven't tried this out though.

It almost sounds like you're trying to rationalize.

Agreed, no guy should leave a bad taste in the girl's mouth (note the pun) especially one that young. However, I think a more interesting question to pose would be "Would you do it if you knew there would be no reprecussion?". Such as there would be no jail time involved.

But the interesting thing about laws involving things of this nature is ANYONE can report the incident and get the law involved. Mother, father, friend, or a neighbor. So it's really not worth the risk if you ask me regardless of how well you treat the girl and how happy she could be with you.

Case in point: I used to work with a guy that was something like 34 or 36 and he openly discussed his 15 year old girlfriend from Maryland. Nevermind that I think it's weird he's even talking about it in public, not to mention the lack of caution, but anyone that overheard that conversation could report him and have him jailed. In that instance it likely would have been one of the bartenders at TGI Fridays.

I would like to pose the amended question to the community and get some feedback.

If there were no legal ramifications of getting involved with a young girl would you still do it?

The age of consent in Australia is 16, I'm 22 and still wouldn't touch anything under 18. I've been tempted before but never relented, particularly when one was a cops daughter.

I think more so now than in the past, but younger people seem to be maturing faster now than before. A friend of mine who's a teacher told me that girls going thru menarche is happening at a younger age than just 10 years ago. I've also met what I thought was a young woman, but instead turned out to be a girl who was only 15. There's going to be more young girls with the appearance of young women who will be actively seeking carnal knowledge with guys who are older, it's the nature of things, however, with the law being against it, able bodied older guys are best left at walking away at these offers or else face what the law holds.

I would blame a lot of this hysteria about older men banging 16 year olds on the US. First you have the radical feminists and then you have the Bible thumping Christian conservatives. Together they have managed to make men feel ashamed of their sexuality and have criminalized it. Then there are shows like to To Catch a Predator which have taken this paranoia even further. This puritanical culture has been exported outwards. Any man who is attracted to a woman under 21 is labeled a pedophile. It has become ridiculous.

It was just 25 years ago that Page 3 Models in the UK could appear topless in the Sun, Britains largest newspaper, at the age of 16. Samantha Fox one of the most famous Page 3 girls was only 16 when she appeared topless. Now it is considered child porn and the publishers of the paper would be locked up.
