Unemployment ..... SMH

Somehow I get selected to participate in the mandatory employment assistance program! wtf

If you dont already know im planning on going to teach in Korea in August and have no intention of getting a job state side for only like 1.5 months. For the past month I have been filling for unemployment online and fibbing about my job search. As I havent applied to not one place. For reference you are suppose to apply to 2 places everyweek and document the process in case some thing happened and your claim didnt get accepted. For most ppl though It doesnt get checked and they are fine, or they can just lie to someone over the phone that most likely wont checkup on it.

But now I have to attend this fuking program weekly and fill out a work search sheet and present it to someone working with me for the program. Not sure how to approach this. I need to be on unemployment for atleast another month. Fuck this is is slightly stressing me out.

If you can get a job for 1.5 months then why not? More money to take to Korea with you.

Your lucky you're only supposed to apply for 2 places a week, in the UK you've to take different 3 actions PER DAY to find work.

Ha. Kids these days. America's prospects are looking good.

Just playing.

On a serious note, Dash, you should bust out some construction work in the meantime.

In a month and a half you can probably stack some green. Didn't you say you were on a super tight budget for the trip?

I have never done construction before and dont know how to go about getting into that.

Wouldnt mind it though as I could def use the money. Anyone know the best way for someone like me with no experience to jump in quick and make some cash? ie type of work, where to go to get it, ect.

Talk to the unemployment office, they usually have hot sheets for jobs. There may be temp agencies or companies that hire day labor and pay at the end of each working day around Fayettenam. You can hopefully find something doing construction labor. It's easy and a good way to get in shape.

Easiest job in the world to get.

Show up and say I want to work (talking non-union here, and I don't think unions are big in North Carolina). Don't be surprised when they throw a broom at you though.

I did a lot of construction work as a young up and coming G.

Great experience. Made all other work in life seem easy. But I did like it.

Other plus: you might be able to get paid in CASH, which would be smooth on top of the unemployment if you get it.

I think there is day labor jobs or a place you go and get picked up for that kind of work. I wonder how much you would get for a days work.

When I moved up the ranks, I used to hire people all the time in this manner.

When I was out of work in Minneapolis, I found a place near the Social Security office ( I was getting mail order bride to be a SS card).

It was really bleak, bottom of the barrel, minimum age. I don't mean to be negative, if a person is disadvantaged, we as a society should have somewhere for them to start [over] and try to fit in.

It was really for people at the end of their rope, and for them I think it was a good thing. You didn't need references, these were people who had for instance just gotten out of prison, or were marginally mentally ill. You got paid each day at the end of the day. Most of the jobs were washing dishes as I recall.

As for me, having a doctorate and having a professional job in the works it didn't really make sense to me to apply, I could better apply my time following up on higher level leads.

I think G's recommendation to show up at a job site, showing you are alert, not mentally ill, cooperative and physically fit is a good idea for someone who sounds intelligent such as yourself.

As far as simply complying by applying, it is pretty easy to apply f'in EVERYWHERE and the way things are people aren't really going to call you back. How is the employment counselor going to know if they called you anyway? It will probably take longer than you need before anyone offers you a job.

As a former bureaucrat I can tell you if you are cooperative and polite the worker is generally not going to act like a detective to screw you up.
It's a lot of work to really go after someone.

For construction and showing up to the work site, I knew a cat who would show up with his tool bag on site, go to the main trailer and say "I'm here to work where you want me to start?"

The foreman would usually try and blow him off or say we dont hire onsite, basically anything to get this rube out of their hair.

My friend would than make the offer...'Look, I'll work the rest of the day with-out pay! If you dont like my work after today I wont come back.' More often than not he was working till the job was complete.

You are allowed to look for work outside the u.s. or outside of your state...push back and tell them you are no longer looking for work in x state and will not be possible to attend....

Getting construction work is not hard at all, if you have the right attitude. First look in wanted ads or craigslist for your area. Also can be useful to just go to a construction site and talk to a foreman.
The key thing is being energetic, willing to work hard, and dependable.
You don't have a specific skill to sell, so what you are selling is a can do, get the job done attitude.
With a minimal amount of hustle, you will make several times what unemployment pays, and you will feel more self reliant and confident, which should translate into more Korean pussy.
