I didnt actually read through the whole thread but Im wondering if anyone went to brazil to train BJJ? i Want to go next year for 6 months and be trained by the best. And ive no portuguese what so ever. HA!

I did and I learn more in 2 weeks in rio than in 6 months in my club.
Go to an hostel, take a room for a night or two then go to some BJJ club
I practiced in Equipe 1 and it's you find most of the foreigners in rio, you got people from everywhere.
Just enter, (pay the fee), train and ask to Mestre De Lariva if he can help you to find somewhere to stay.
There used to have a Brasa Club right around the corner but it seem to have disappear.
Anyway have fun if you go

Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral

Raw. Real. Rio. MaleDefined in Brazil

What’s up fellas, just got back from my first trip to Brasil. Got me a 10 year visa so I plan to go again and again. Good time to visit Brasil, the Reais are trading very low and goods are quite inexpensive. You could get a caipirihna at the beach for about 6-8 Reais, that’s about $2.25 in USA Dollars.

Nightlife: I arrived on Saturday Sept 12 and it was raining heavily the first 3 days I was there. Rio doesn’t have much nightlife during the week. You can meet girls at the beach when the weather is good but don’t expect to meet many locals during September as it’s the winter season for them. From Thursday – Saturday clubs open and you can definitely do night game in areas such as Lapa, Copacabana and Ipanema.

A couple of places that I have not heard mentioned on this forum:

Cave: near Posto 6 in Copacabana. Mostly younger girls, early 20s, not very responsive to my approaches, the crowd was mostly lighter or white Brasilians, which I feel are less friendly. I gamed this girl who was sitting outside of the club smoking a cigarette. She gave me her number but nothing came of it, being a foreigner doesn’t guarantee you trim in Rio.

Mud Bug: Bar in Copacabana near Posto 3. Drinks are expensive and you have to pay the entrance fee when you exit. I went on a Wednesday night and the place was dead, there were dudes watching UFC fights and girls with their boyfriends. The bouncer did tell me that there is usually 500-600 people at Mud Bug on Friday and Saturday nights but the thought of waiting to pay your entrance fee when you exit discouraged me for verifying this.

Pay to play: (one of the guys I was with is really big into pay to play so I got to visit a few establishments).

Casablanca: Around the corner from Mud Bug, the bouncer from Mud Bug took me and my two buddies there, he told us we could negotiate “their asking prices” of 300 Reais to 150 or even 100 Reais, he was not kidding. The girls at Casablanca are not the prettiest I’ve seen at Rio’s brothels, many would be outside smoking cigarettes until the place got busy. The minute we entered the girls were on us like white and on rice. My buddy had one girl with stinky duck sauce breath on him and she would not take no for an answer. He gave in, paid her in Reais and did the dirty deed, literally.

Centaurus: Hotest girls in Rio. The girls here are gorgeous, I went in with my two buddies to peek and saw women of all nationalities in lingerie, perfect figures. Centaurus will cost you more in terms of Reais, 535 for a massage +.

Monte Carlo: near Casablanca and the girls there are of similar quality.

4x4: I heard it mentioned but didn’t visit 4X4 because it was in the center of Rio which was about 20 minutes from Copacabana.

Online:
Tinder: I connected with a lot of girls but most wanted to meet me for dinner on the first night. I was doing no such thing. One of my buddies spent about 450 Reais on a tinder date and was able to smash it later that night. This girl was a bit on the chunky side, probably from all the free dinners she consumed. Still makes me wonder if I would have had more success in terms of flags if I had bought some of my tinder matches dinner. However the mere thought of buying trim is not in me and that's how I feel about first date dinners. I could easily buy a woman drinks on the first date, that's totally acceptable in my book.

My only smash was with a pretty Latin American brunette I met at a bus stop. I approached her to ask directions to SugarLoaf, midway through the conversation I asked if she spoke Spanish, she did and gave me her number. That night we met for drinks across the street from my place. We then went back to my place for some Baileys Irish Cream. I tried to get her into my room but all she kept saying was how men are too aggressive in Brasil and how she wanted to go dancing with me later in the week. After a few kisses I walked her downstairs and closed the door behind her, thinking I would never see her again. The next morning she texts me bom dia. A couple of days later we met for coffee. After coffee we went for burgers in Ipanema and later that night we walked along the beach and drank coconut water. After that she was ready to go back to my apartment and into my room.

Met up with forum member Vancity29, cool cat. Me, him and another forum member hit up a Favela Party at Vidigal on Friday night. There is a hostel at the very top of this Favela and the only way up is via motorbike. The motorcycle chauffeurs drive half drunk, really fast and sometimes with no headlights. They zip between people, other motorcyclists and even cars to get you to your destination. The entire ride to the top takes about 5 minutes but feels like 30 because it is scary as hell. Only when you get off the motorbike do you realize what an awesome experience you just had.

I will definitely be visiting Rio more often, especially during their summer. If you plan to visit learn a few words in Portuguese. Spanish helps a lot too.
