New city, new opportunities, terrible at number closes

I just moved to a new state this past weekend and finally out on my own, which means I can be freer to pursue—anything really. Walked into a store to check out some things and an employee asked me what I was looking for and then passed me off to a girl. We started talking and I mentioned how I do not have a phone and she thought that was cool, but I said it makes it hard to keep in touch with people. The store does require in your face customer service, but she seemed interested, and I had a great transition to get her number based on the fact that I lack a phone, which makes it hard to get numbers. And of course I just let her end the conversation and walk away, making it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I had made a mental note to focus on getting a job set up and a permanent place to stay (currently with friends) before concerning myself with women. That definitely affected my mindset.

Everything was right, even a little kino (we shook hands once or twice), but not having a phone has made me unused to getting numbers, even from friends. This is one of the reasons I am really considering getting one, and then I really need to work on asking for numbers from people.

So, lesson learned for the future. There are definitely plenty of options out there, especially now that I know more than I did a few years ago when I was on my own in college. I will need to go to the store she works at again in the future. Should I try again if I happen to be going there? Or just let it go? Or should I go back in a few days deliberately, but with another purpose to cover my intentions. Unfortunately, I will not know if she is even working on any given day, however I do have her name.

I think it's great practice just taking advantage of getting the most out of every interaction. But work on getting your shit together.

If you meet a girl somewhere just play with it and work on your game but don't get distracted thinking about a situation with one chick.

If you're working on being out on your own for the first time, you should be busy getting bars on lock, networking with men who advance your career, finding the most efficient way to work, a nice jogging route, a good gym... that you don't have time to fuck around with just one girl.

High value men have stuff going on, they cross paths with women and set up dates for later..
and what's wrong with using a phone? If you're on the run just pay cash for burners bro.

Hope this helped, hard to tell without knowing more about your situation.

Any time a woman engages you and it’s not part of her job take a shot. The problem with customer service is that they are hired guns and you need to be 200% sure she's interested. Absent something compelling, it's best here to have a neutral conversation with mild expectations if you must.

You don't want to become a stalker. Getting a reputation in your area as the guy who forces a captive audience won't help you.

The best advice was from a friend of mine years ago who now works on Rodeo Drive. The friend put it, "[y]ou don't date a girl who works at Coach, you date one who shops there." I'd peruse other stores and markets for customers and collect numbers that way.

^ well put. That being said, as a beginner, forcing myself to go for a number every time can be helpful.

I agree with the overall point of aiming higher.

I have a "buddy" who is stuck on pathetic when it comes to females. He goes on and on about customers who "might" be interested in him (they're not) and asked me once if he should call her using the number she provided to buy an item or "go the Facebook route" whatever that is.

Don't be that guy.
