That's pretty much it. But after thinking about this some more, I still have more questions than answers.

One of my questions is that if one doesn't code his own software, how does he insert himself as a the middleman between the software maker and the customer who needs the software? In other words, how do you make money by licensing software that is not yours (in terms of intellectual property)?

I mean, if I tried that with Adobe Photoshop, and don't correspond with the maker while just distributing it to users on a subscription basis, I can't imagine all kinds of sticky legal issues I would get myself in.

So I'm still not quite getting it just yet.

It's not actually a software product. This is what he wrote in an earlier post.

Without giving away my niche or idea… What I did, was take the SAAS (software as a service) business model and created an offline monthly subscription product.

The subscription is not for the software itself, but for an offline service that is probably facilitated by some software.

Spot on sir.

In regards to people's comments about getting sued for "unlicensed" use of the software. It's comparable to the creators of photoshop suing a freelancer who offers a design service - it just won't happen.

There is so much contradiction in this thread that I can't make out what exactly is being sold. I take it that this isn't a product but a service where you manage a site and their software?

It's some kind of processing service which uses software that is expensive and/or difficult to maintain. Probably not strictly within the definition of "software as a service" but reasonably well-described earlier in this thread.

He's not going to reveal his business offering in detail, for obvious reasons.

I am curious too what this offline product is my guess is:

1) A service that that compliments an actual real mainstream SaaS by offering configuration or modification of files/projects processing etc through the use of one or several 3rd party tools/plugins to optimize and/or customize them for the clients so these clients don't have to get all these 3rd party tools together themselves.

2) Some sort of guide service manual/videos on all these tips and tricks that is constantly updated with how to use these 3rd party tools themselves in the most optimal way to keep on the edge of the technology.

Hence the "you wouldn't sue a guy for using Photoshop to offer a graphic design service... would you?".

If he offers 3 stacks services to choose from, those would be the main three "service stacks" wanted and he farms them out to his devs. This makes it more easily scalable with less edge cases and headaches and less hands-on.
