Looks super interesting, but brutal.

That is a hell of a lot of flights. I would almost go as far as to say that is the craziest trip I have ever seen. If he sticks to the itinerary that is.

How would you even pack for that trip?

He is going to have to be a magician to swoop girls.

Not to be negative or anything, but my bet is he catches more colds than girls. But at least he will have tons of digital photos in front of buildings.

If that was my brother, I would tell him to mellow out.

He has a girlfriend of 3 years at home so I'm not sure about the swooping.

I remember him telling me he got a good deal on the flights. It was one of the STA round the world open tickets. 16 flights for around $8000 USD.

I agree about the intensity of the trip, but I think it's his big OE before he becomes too career focused so he wanted to see more cities.
Also, they are driving across the states from west coast to east coast in a big ass van, they have some friends that did it before them.

He just left today, so I'll keep you updated about how he sticks to his itinerary.

I have a hard time seeing how he'll be able to enjoy himself with that itinerary. He'll be spending 1/5 of his time just going from one place to another.

Oh and $8000 for that trip is not a good deal. It's lousy, downright atrocious, value. RTW fares are never worth it.

I enjoy travel hacking, if you know how airline fares, routings and fuel charges work you could get that kind of itinerary down to 1/3 of the price your brother is paying. Never get on a plane without consulting the gurus at http://www.flyertalk.com That place has saved me thousands of $ over the years and made sure I'm enjoying major status with several hotel chains and airlines. No I am not affiliated with that forum, though I frequently post there.

It's pretty impressive that he would pre-plan every city he's going for five months. I've been traveling RTW for over a year and I never plan anything except maybe a day or two before I go somewhere I'll look at the Lonely Planet guide. I have a general idea where I'm going next but I just figure things out on the way. if I like a place I stay their longer. I think that's one of hte good things about traveling long term. Flexibiliy can be good.

He is going around the world and the "big gun" of the trip is LA?

Including San Diego, that is 9 days in Southern California.

Was Baywatch his favorite show as a kid or something?

The more I think about it, it is really hard for me to believe someone would do this as a trip.

Our father lives in Bangkok, and he was planning on spending his birthday there with him. We've already seen a lot of Thailand.
He does have a girlfriend so I'm not sure about swooping.

Agreed about spending more time in Barcelona and London, less time in LA.
And he'll be backpacking, so I don't think a lot of unpacking is required.

I would rather travel in 2 month stints and spend a bit more time in dope spots. Thanks to this forum I can be a lot more informed about the places I visit.

Trip Update:
Apparently Tahiti is dirty and noisy and a bottle of coke costs 600 francs.
