His statement is so mild and personal and the feminist refused to accept it. In fact it seems like she thinks it is "modern" for all women to be required to work. What a fucked up position.

Also, his response to the controversy caused by his article on why women aren't funny:

I didn't particularly like the Hitch on a lot, but I could respect the fact he slowly moved from the Left to a right-ish position over the course of his life. Not so much for the move, but at least he showed the ability to change his mind.

This man is a personal hero to me. He drank and smoked during debates and would rip multiple opponents apart during debates, by himself. Extremely eloquent and knowledgeable with a genuine I Don't Give A Fuck attitude.

His book, God Is Not Great, is a must read for the modern man. Instead of philosophically evaluating the merits of religion, he provides a detailed historical analysis of the link between blind faith and destructive, hateful behavior.

This guy was as red pill as they come and never afraid to speak his mind. Be lays the smackdown on christians, muslims and feminists all the same.

But he told the BBC he was ''still a Marxist'' when asked in a 2010 interview.

I think he was referring to Marxism in the classical sense, rather than the warped Cultural Marxism of recent times.

He always remained a strong admirer of Trotsky...it's likely why he supported US invasions and occupations throughout the middle east, because it represented (in his mind) the triumph of one world system consistent with Marxist aims.

But regardless of all that, his words in the videos above are great stuff.

I haven't disputed that. The poster I responded to seemed to believe he had moved to the right of the political spectrum when in fact he remained a far-leftist since Marxism belongs to the left.

When I was an atheist God Is Not Great was my go-to guide. Later after researching it I discovered he exaggerated a lot of the stuff in it and made plenty of tenuous claims (for example, a lot of the stuff he says about Christianity and Nazism).

Hitchens was interesting and often entertaining but a lot of the things he wrote in that book aren't accurate.

And to his dying day he was a Trotsky-admirer who got flustered during this interview conducted by Matthew Pariss with Robert Service, which still makes me laugh:

I respect the man, even if I disagree on numerous points.
But let's be honest, most of his fans would not idolize him so much if he did not have that wonderful accent. If he came from Tennessee for instance he would have much less renown.

His admiration of Trotsky is something people really harangue him for to this day.

What stiff was exaggerated in his book exactly? I am aware that Hitler was vehemently anti-Christian (it's a Jewish import after all), and atheists like Sam Harris point that out.

I'll have to find another copy (since a MILF stole mine) or a version of the audiobook. But if I recall correctly he exaggerated the links and cooperation between Christianity and the Nazi state. Other little things he hyped up were the Pope sending something to Hitler on his birthday and how some Wehrmacht and SS uniforms had a belt buckle that said "Gott mit uns" (God with us) as if that was proof the Nazis were Christians. Problem with that is it's been a motto the Germans used on stuff way before the Third Reich.

Hitchens does a lot of stuff like that. He'll tell you things that make his argument stronger but leave out the entire truth.

Christopher Hitchens was a little before my time so I'm not too familiar with his works.
However, I do follow the musing of his brother Peter after having watched him succinctly, and quite eloquently, destroy left-wing rhetoric on Question Time a few years ago.

Personally, I think Peter Hitchens is by far the greater of the two brothers. I don't agree with him on a few things, but he is a towering intellect, more thoughtful and better read than any other political commentator I can think of. If the weight of the mainstream media and leftist hysteria wasn't so vehemently commited to shouting him down, twisting his words, and denying him the platform to express his views, I think he would be more widely recognised as one of the great thinkers of our time, and far superior (in my view) to the likes of Chomsky, the darling of the left. He writes an excellent blog at: http://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk/

Peter can't be the better Hitchens, he whistles when he pronounces his "s" sounds. Kills his rhetorical capacity.

I assume you are being deliberately facetious, rather than suggesting that quality of content is secondary to aural aesthetics. Particularly since it would be an incredibly petty reason to dismiss an erudite and well reasoned argument. I realise as I type that you must be being deliberately sarcastic.

Inspirational stuff! Had no idea about Peter Hitchens before now.
QT seemed to have loaded the panel against him yet he still makes his points well amidst the feelgood claptrap from the other side.

Quite. And he's fully aware of it too.

I think I'm also more of a fan of Peter, though Christopher's refusal to be PC in terms of women and sex etc is great, of course. Interesting that one brother despises religion, and the other is an outspoken Christian.

I don't agree with Peter on everything (I think his arguments about drugs like nuance), but watching him shred everyone on QT is a beautiful thing to witness.

I think his best skill was debating, and I think he has a clear edge over his brother in this area. There are numerous videos of him debating on youtube.

Here are some notable examples:

Hitchens vs Hitchens. Debating the Iraq War.
In the opening speeches you'll see what a natural public speaker he is. Bear in mind he is probably drunk too.

Hitchens vs Tony Blair, debating religion.

Hitchens vs George Galloway. Debating the Iraq War.
This is a must-see debate. Both are excellent and fierce debaters, Hitchens is almost certainly drunk, again. Galloway is one of the few to come close to Hitchens in this type of intellectual duel, both are at the top of their game.

Hitchens was somehow a better debater while noticeably intoxicated
