It's time to warm this thread up with some Funk and Soul from 1980s Los Angeles.

George Benson - "Give Me the Night" (1980)

Beverly Hills Cop, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Less Than Zero, Repo Man, Valley Girl, To Live and Die in L.A., The Karate Kid, Fletch, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo...Los Angeles was the place to be in the 80s, and no one embodies that spirit more than George Benson in this video.

The Whispers - "Keep On Lovin' Me" (1983)

The house band at Death Row Records. No one has more fun than The Whispers.

Shalamar - "A Night To Remember" (1982)

They just don't make videos anymore like they did in the 80s.

Patrice Rushen - "Remind Me" (1982)

Time to slow things down for a minute with a silky, sweet ballad from the girl who sent us "Forget Me Nots."

Prime Time - "I Owe It To Myself" (1984)

And now we can warm it all back up again with Prime Time. This song was a minor hit on the R&B charts in 1984 and was covered by The Gap Band the following year.

The Puritan hated bear-baiting, not because it gave pain to the bear, but because it gave pleasure to the spectators. - Thomas B. Macaulay

Rick Von Slonecker is tall, rich, good-looking, stupid, dishonest, conceited, a bully, liar, drunk and thief, an egomaniac, and probably psychotic. In short, highly attractive to women. - Whit Stillman

I'm glad this thread grew so fast. Looks like we got some real smooth and soulful players here.

This Whispers jam got me a notch in SF.

Not to give away my age... but I remember this song playing at school dances. Dancing with some hunnies and having my hand resting on the top of a girls butt thinking I was the Mack Daddy!

I can remember when I caught up
With a pastime intimate friend.
She said, "Bet you're probably gonna say I look lovely,
But you probably don't think nothin' of me."

She was right, though, I can't lie.
She's just one of those corners in my mind,
And I just put her right back with the rest.
That's the way it goes, I guess.

Hahahaha! Speaking of giving away your age, I remember my first slow dance. This song was playing.

Other then having to be that much older... I would have preferred to have my first slow dance to Heatwave rather then Silk

They do, and its pretty good. Jhene Aiko, Miguel, Marsha Ambrosius, Jill Scott, all are pretty good (and yes they are all contemporary). Sadly, they barely get any radio time thanks to all of the junk the record execs push nowadays like feminist icons Beyonce and Taylor Swift. My cousin is an R&B head so I found a lot of this music thanks to her.

I know Freddie Jackson and Charlie Wilson came out with new albums lately, had to go to my uncle's Facebook feed to find out.

For all the music you guys like in this thread, I've been dropping mixes with the same themes in another thread with downloads.

Feel free to share any of your favourite mixes there:

^^ I will have to check them out, the two songs I have herd from Miguel I really liked^^

Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt is my favorite rap album of all time. Every song is dope and the lyrics are so well put together... I think thats what kills modern rap for me.. they just say shit that makes no sense.. or literally rhyme the word nigga with the word nigga.

Lyric from Jay-Zs "Feelin it"
OK I'm gettin weeded now, I know I'm contradicting myself
Look I don't need that now
It just once in a blue moon when there's nothin to do and
The tension gets too thick for my sober mind to cut through
I get to zonin, me and the chick on a island and we're bonin'
I free my mind sometimes I hear myself moanin
Take one more toke and I leave that weed alone man
It got me goin

Lyrics from a popular song from Jason Derulo song "Wiggle"
Hot damn it
Your booty like two planets
Go head, and go ham sandwich
Whoa, I can't stand it
Cause you know what to do with that big fat butt
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle

Advice for the brothers in Asia: For some reason, James Ingram and Peabo Bryson are really popular in Japan, Korea and China. Asian MILFS swoon to this jam. I've heard this from family members who go crazy for Ingram.

But Teddy Pendergrass is unheard of.

That song came out when I was in high school, so I'd place your age at 37-40.

No sir, This was played at my very first school dances in elementary school so I am not the age you guessed.

Speaking of Teddy Pendergrass, here's another classic "Father and Son" combo:

Teddy Pendergrass - "Love T.K.O." (1980)

Ahmad - "Back in the Day" (1994)

While we're at it, here's one more for good measure:

Sylvia Striplin - "Can't Turn Me Away" (1981)

Junior M.A.F.I.A. - "Get Money" (1995)
