Montenegro (Podgorica/Budva) DATASHEET

Montenegro DATASHEET

My visit was in 2012 so sadly I cannot remember every small detail but here goes.

Montenegro is a small country in the Balkans with a population of 650,000. The language spoken is Montenegrin which is basically a dialect of Serbian and is very similar. Small differences e.g. Ciao for goodbye. The country also has a slight turkish influence on them and turkish coffees are quite popular.

Types of Food/Drink
Some of the local foods I tried
-Katchamak (potato cheese dish) - extremely filling and heavy.
-Priganica - i think this was a donut I had for breakfast
-Popek
-Few other serbian dishes

-Rakija is the most popular drink by far and its found in many other Balkan countries sometimes with a different name. Rakija is a very smooth tasting spirit usually clear in colour and has a base fruit flavour e.g. Plum, Apricot. Its quite strong at 40-60% alcohol levels but after drinking it for a few days it becomes really nice and enjoyable. Naturally in a bar they will serve it in a shot glass with a glass of water.

Women/People
As described to me by a local the people are very primitive. Let me give some examples
-A woman may be sitting in a restaurant by herself. A guy will walk up and place his keys on the table to show what car he has (how rich). She will then decide whether or not to have sex with him or date him.
-Girls will walk down their street and take a photo of themself to make it look like they are doing something then post it on facebook just to get likes. They will sometimes even message people to like their photo lol to try and get 100-500likes
-Women and men would sit outside a bar instead of inside so they could be seen. One night it was so fucking hot I went to a bar with a friend and had to sit inside for air conditioning but we were the only people inside! everyone else put up with the heat to sit outside for the status.

A lot of the women are brunettes which was kind of the opposite to when I visited Ukraine which has so many blondes. Generally the women are very sexually open and social circle game is your greatest ally. My guess as to why they are sexually open would be because there isn't much to do in Podgorica and their wages are so low its hard to do anything else. They are also not ashamed to say if they think you are attractive but are usually shy about speaking english. If you can break into a social circle you will love this country.

Living
For an extended stay look into finding an apartment. Any hostels at the time of my visit were people that turned their house into a hostel which was still nice but didnt have the hostel vibe. Be careful in booking hotels as with some of them half the stuff will not work and they are overpriced. If you make friends with locals they are very friendly and will probably offer you a day or two at their place.

Podgorica & Budva
Podgorica, there is not much to do but it is very very cheap! Was having large egg and bacon breakfasts in a restaurant everyday for 3-4euro! There are some clubs but I do not know much about them and I would assume they are not that busy during the week. In bars shots of rakija were 2 euro each.

If you are thinking of traveling to Budva (which you should) you have two options. Catch a bus for about 7-8euro I think it was, or you can get a taxi ( 1hr trip) for 20euro. Make sure you call Podgorica Taxi and not Budva taxi as they are more expensive. When leaving Budva back to Podgorica you can do the same thing they will drive down (allow for an hour) and pick you up. So its basically a 2hr taxi ride since you pay him to drive down for 20euro cheap eh?

Budva can be best compared to Odessa. Very similar layout with open air style clubs lined up along the beach, and very busy in Summer. A lot of russians come down to Budva during summer. Some of the music also described as 'primitive' sounds very strange but seems to be popular. You will also see alot of gogo dancers on platforms in many of the clubs. Clubs on the beach close around 12 then you have a couple options of clubs in Budva to party at afterwards.

Adventurous Activities
They use to have one of the top 10 highest bungee jumps in the world which was run by a few Brits but I think there was some disagreement and they left. Not sure if they returned or not. Your other option and this is a MUST do in Montenegro. White water rafting in Tara River which is in the north. Depending on what time of year you visit the rapids are more crazy than different months. If i was to take a guess from memory I believe March had the craziest rapids.

Tara River, halfway down the river

To get to Skepan Polje (where the white water rafting is you have a two options). Bus or car. They do organised packages but I honestly do not know anything about that as I just turned up. If you take the bus like I did you will need to catch it early in the morning and get off the bus AT THE BORDER of Montenegro/Bosnia. Since there is no designated place to get off its best to tell the bus driver and someone else on the bus in case you fall asleep like I did. You then need to just follow the signs to arrive at the camp area. Also unlike me you should book this in advance! I arrived 5 minutes before they were leaving and asked if they was any room and then got suited up straight away. Instructions will be in Serbian so hopefully you will have someone on your raft who can translate but its pretty simple.

After the white water rafting getting back to Podgorica you may have to hitch a ride. A group of very friendly Swiss gave me a 40min lift to the nearest bus station and I caught a bus from. Someone should be able to give a lift for you in the camp because they will feel sorry for you lol. But if worse comes to worst you should be able to hitch a lift off a car crossing through the border.

White water rafting Tara River is one of the best experiences of my life. The river is fresh clear water which we were drinking and just thinking about the trip is giving me a sense of nostalgia.

My experience
Slept with one girl, very cute face ok body which broke me into an awesome social circle. I also stayed with her family for almost a week (2 week total time in Montenegro). Through the social circle I met a guy who knew probably half the population of women in Podgorica and anytime he ran into one he would introduce me and try and set me up greatest wingman ever! I got a few makeouts with some stunners but felt bad about pushing further since this girl and her family was letting me stay with them, feeding me everyday and all my needs were being satisfied. In Budva I met (again through social circle) one of the hottest girls I have ever met in my life and she was instantly attracted to me i think because of my accent. Again couldn't do anything about it as I was with the girl.

Side Notes: Another guy I became very good friends with and drove me to the airport (from a different social circle) was telling his stories how when he was 15 he was with a 30yr old milf who taught him everything he knew. And sleeping with the hottest women in Montenegro was his bread and butter.

Bottom Line
Most women are not model slim like they are in Ukraine, so going to Ukraine then Montenegro you might be slightly disappointed but the quality of women is still very high.

To pickup you are going to need tight game or break into a social circle with the latter being your best option. If you can break in and make friends with some cool dudes you will have it made and they will make you feel like you are a little famous. Also be careful with the rakija! These montenegrins are some of the heaviest drinkers I have ever met and I almost had to go to hospital. And sadly it was on a night where my montenegrin friend was once again setting me up with a beauty that instantly liked me lol.

Montenegro (Podgorica/Budva) DATASHEET

I was there in August and I would'nt advice anyone to go there at that time.

It was totally jammed with people, very hard even finding a place to sleep.

Montenegro is beautiful, but try to avoid the ultimate high season when Europeans are having summer vacation. It will be packed

@Big Nilla - I never noticed this and would have never known. One of my friends was about 6'2 but that's it.

I had visited in June/July and if I wasn't having so much fun with my local friends I would have explored the country more which is one thing I regret. You could probably explore Montenegro completely in 2-3 weeks if you don't enter a social circle. If you find friends there you would need a month or two to give time to see everything. Alternatively you could live in an apartment on the beach in Budva for a month in Summer that would be pretty sick.
