I never get why people want to quit working, or only work 10% of what they could. If you love what you're doing, it keeps you motivated and with a true meaning. It also lengthens your lifespan since it keeps you wanting to go forward, unless you're working as a construction worker, of course. I mean, why don't you move back and keep working on what has allowed you to save together 150k to buy these properties and keep travelling?

Nope, I do not intend to move back to Western Europe ever again. Maybe to Asia but definitely not back to Central or Western Europe, or Nothern America. Been there, done that.

There seems to be a legitimate split between people who find many pleasant things about the West and those who really don't like anything about the West.

There is probably some confirmation bias in the title and the question. People who have bad experiences in the West move away, often find things better and then stay. Of course in that situation its better.

For me the States were OK but I was young and stupid, from a poor family, first to go to uni, studied a worthless major, went to China, traveled for 5 years, became fluent in Chinese, then spent 5 years making money. I've sowed me oats some and at 33 look to the West as somewhere without smog, nice mountains and good lakes for fishing/swimming in the summer time.

To return with enough money to not "work" seems great.

I'm thinking about Taiwan for a year though. I spent a month there 5 years ago and loved it. Great women, Taibei was rocking, go to the south for beaches, alright.

I work at a university here teaching English. I have a BA in History. Im sure I could get a job I hate that would pay me a reasonable salay, but why would I do that when I dont have to?

I live in a small apartment, cook simple meals, ride a bike, rockclimb, lift weights, study language, read books. These things are almost free. Gaming girls is pretty easy here at least, I go for ice cream in the park 8 months of the year. Now its a little more expensive, a cup of tea.
