Why you might want to avoid Colombia for a little

Colombia is currently experiencing the rainiest period in its recorded history. Literally millions of people have lost their homes due to flooding, and as far as being a tourist destination, its a bummer that its raining all the time.

Not that you can´t enjoy it here, but you might just hit up some other place while you wait for these rains to pass.

for what it's worth, i've been in bogota since early march with just a weekend in cartagena with no problems. the floods are definitely here, but mostly between chia (the north of bogota) and bogota. you can definitely see it in those spots and i can't speak for cali/medellin but nothing i've seen in bogota would discourage me.....the elevation is probably too high. for those criss-crossing the country, it may be an issue though, good heads up!

Just spoke to my contacts in Bogota. They reiterated the exact same thing as Rinestone did. The elevation is what keeps them safe. Also this is not happening to "Colombia" in general. It's happening in a few places. A similar comparison may be Australia. They have a couple of cities that have experienced major floods and they have had hundreds killed. This wouldn't mean that one shouldn't visit Australia (I still went and had a good time). Just look at the areas that are considered most prone to flooding and don't spend long periods of time in those areas.

Well there actually has been flooding in certain areas of Bogotá, but those areas aren't really where gringos would find themselves.

The reason I'm saying to avoid it is because when it's rainy all day it's a bummer. Who wants to visit someplace to stay inside all day?

It's funny how Colombia works. When it is raining...nobody goes out, NOBODY! If it is a weekend night, and you do not have a steady girl on lockdown, it's you and rosie palm that night, 'cuz all girls stay inside fucking their regular BF's, and do not go out.

Russia is definitely not like that. Even Thailand is not like that.

For instance, Universidad de la Sabana, a very important University just north of the city's technical limits, has just flooded and suspended everything indefinitely

I think it's the La Nina weather pattern.
