I've been using Google Chromecast lately to stream movies from my computer to my TV. Works pretty well. All you have to do is install the chrome browser and then install a browser add on called Videostream. It let's you select any type of video file from your computer and stream it to your tv.

I also have a jailbroken Apple TV 2 with XBMC loaded on it. It has its benefits as well but it's been very flaky in my experience.

If you're looking for no frills video streaming Chromecast is the way to go. Can't beat it for $35.

I also use chromecast and I co-sign this. I have also pre-ordered the amazon stick to stream amazon videos (I have Amazon Prime). The films I stream from YouTube are all superior quality to redbox rented flicks.

You can do the same with chrome beta on android. I stream everything from my phone to my tv. Its really nice. First thing to do is clear defaults for your chrome beta browser, then when you watch a video it will have the little chromecast symbol in the corner and click it.
