Chad Evans - should a convicted rapist be allowed to play professional football again

I haven't seen this covered

A UK footballer (Sheffield Utd) Chad Evans was convicted of rape of a rape of a 19 yr old "who was too drunk to consent" and spent two years in prison. He maintains his innocence and the Criminal Cases Review Commission announced they are fast tracking a review into his conviction.

He's training with his old club but the debate rages on whether he should be allowed to play for his old club for some obvious and some less so reasons including 'he's going to make a lot of money' and 'he's a role model'....

There's the obvious petitions that he should never play again

This is saying whether you gain employment after time served depends on your career, which it does in some cases for sex offences (teachers....)

Thankfully mainstream media is pointing out some of the hypocrisies but as always there largely being drowned out. and checking again it was hard to find those articles. The 'he should never play again, we'll resign from the board, sponsors pulling out' dominate the headlines

But journalist and columnist Rod Liddle, also on the panel, said it would be "politically-correct hypocrisy" to prevent Evans from playing football.

"There are countless footballers plying their trade - most of them in the lower divisions - who have been convicted of various offences which are egregious and some of them have caused people to lose their lives," said Mr Liddle, associate editor of The Spectator magazine.

"Are you saying that rape is something ... worse than killing someone? That there is one exception to made for this one offence?"

Anecodately ,it was a threesome (or 2nd helpings) and the other guy got off, Clayton McDonald.

McDonald had sex with the woman – he was cleared of rape – and then Evans arrived in the room, having persuaded the hotel porter to give him a key. The court heard that Evans asked if he could join in – he claimed he was invited – McDonald left and Evans raped the woman while two of his friends outside the window attempted to film what was going on.

Football careers are short, I think privately most people would think anyone has the right to rejoin society (all be it with some controls) after serving their time and rape is no exception. However, no-one or no-company/body will state this fact in fear of the backlash that this promotes 'rape' acceptance and the rest of the noise that goes with it.
