I signed up for a trial of 1 month with privateinternetaccess.com. Installed it on my OSX and Windows partitions on my laptop, as well as on my iphone.

Set up is so easy that it feels like, "is that it?"

But after a day of using it, there are a couple of issues I found.

* Tinder doesn't work well with VPN. Maybe VPN interferes with the location services for Tinder? (although Google Maps had my correct location within 100 meters)

* I tried sending email from my iphone to my other email address, and it wouldn't send. Turned off VPN on my iphone, and email went through.

Am I doing something wrong?
Changing the server might work. A lot of ip addresses you get with a VPN are on black lists. The reason for this is that you share now an IP address. If you use those with your mail address the provider might block them.

So PIA is blacklisted on some servers?

Actually, the PIA problems are getting worse. The VPN has been frequently getting disconnected. Sometimes I'm able to reconnect with the VPN, and sometimes I'm not. I sent in a support ticket.

No idea why this is happening, but my impression of PIA is not a good one so far.

Bump, recommending VPN4ALL.

It's not the cheapest (10 bucks a month, plus 2 bucks to cover your mobile device, and another 2 to use server side anti-virus/malware), but by far the easiest to install and use so far. Plug and play.

PIA was unreliable and it kept disconnecting randomly. I cancelled it, and tried privatoria. It was much more complex, didn't work and I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Support wasn't too helpful either. So I tried VPN4ALL and while it's been only a day, it looks good so far.

You think VPN is even necessary on your phone? Seemed to drain my battery too much, so I just left it.

Interesting... was it an iphone?

I access RVF on my phone more than half the time, so yeah it might be necessary... and when I'm abroad, I have an app that needs to run on an US based IP address. But I might change my mind later.

I've got torguard and wouldn't recommend it. You can't go for more than about 15 minutes without the internet cutting out.

It was a droid. Suppose it makes sense if you need the location. I hardly do any browsing on my phone, though, so don't have much use for it. I'm also convinced it's leaking data left, right, and centre regardless of what I do.

I use express VPN. $99 for the year and you get codes to install it on a laptop, a phone and another device.

It's pretty damn fast, too. I've noticed that if I surf with the vpn on that my internet seems to run more smoothly than when I don't.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Anyone know a good vpn that will run on net flix? I was watching on my private server the past year but then a few days ago, netflix says I can't go online because it's a vpn.

Free VPN with developer Opera

Opera now has free and unlimited VPN built into its browser

Opera has just put a free VPN feature in its browser, and users get unlimited data usage.

The VPN function will be available within its desktop browser with a simple flick of a toggle switch — making it one of the first mainstream browser makers to offer this.

After users flip the VPN on, they'll be allowed to change the country that they are displaying to websites, and the browser will show other information like how much data has gone through its VPN servers. Opera doesn't require a sign-in to toggle the feature.
Similar to features found in paid services, Opera's VPN offers a pretty respectable 256-bit encryption level, and will allow users to hide their IP addresses, and access blocked sites.

For now, the function is available only in its developer version of the desktop browser, and not in Opera's other versions like mobile. Users will also only be able to choose between the U.S., Canada and Germany as spoofed locations.

Eventually, Opera is expected to make the feature broadly available in future stable versions of its desktop browser.

The VPN functionality is largely thanks to Opera's Mar. 2015 acquisition of SurfEasy, which until now had offered its VPN client as a freemium Opera extension — offering a free tier of service, and charging if the user consumes more data.

...Opera's smartphone browser, Opera Mini, is mainly marketed with its page-compression ability, which go through Opera's servers first to be squeezed smaller by up to a claimed 90% before going to the user's phone. This is especially appealing in emerging markets, where lower end phones may struggle with a heavier site, and smaller data bundles require users to be stingier with their browsing.
...
Opera makes most of its money from its mobile ad network, Opera Mediaworks.

My personal favorite is IPVanish - https://www.deepdotweb.com/2015/11/17/ip...pn-review/

Besides security they have amazing options for servers as well.

If you're not doing a lot of heavy straming, downloading, or uploading, freegate works well enough, and its free. For most other things, tor works fairly well.

I'm partial to Avast. If you're using the Antivirus(I recommend it because it's the best free antivirus) it doesn't require any additional software and launches from outside the web browser. The last part is extremely important because it prevents your identity being revealed by auto syncing programs.

How good is VPN Unlimited? There is lifetime subscription for $30 deal I am considering. Has anybody tried it?

I've got NordVPN. $79/3 years, paid with bitcoin.

I really like it. My only issue is that it doesn't seem to change to faster IP addresses. If you're logged onto one, it'll keep you there no matter what. Sometimes I'll use one for a few hours, then the internet will stop working or slow down hard. I'll just disconnect and reconnect to US, and it'll find a faster one.

IPVanish.

I ditched Express VPN after they suspended my account for their own billing mistake and made me wait two days before I could hear from back (had to be the account team, tech support couldn't help).
