Oslo impressions

Just spent 4 nights in Oslo this month. So would like to give a quick update on the scenes there [Image: smile.gif]

1) Price
This is the most expensive city I have visited, BY FAR. In other expensive cities that I have visited or lived in (e.g. Zurich, Tokyo, London), one can still have bargains if one knows where to look for or can live like a local. But in Oslo it's mega expensive across the board! E.g. small bottle of water (500ml) = 5EUR, a pizza-wrap = 8EUR, those are the prices in convenience stores! A main dish can cost 30-40EUR in *normal* restaurants (in most other top-tier cities one can dine at gourmet/5* places for this price). While, there are still some savings to be had, see below.

2) Accommodation
I stayed at one of the top hotels right in the city center for under 80EUR a night (including full breakfast buffet), which is a steal consider the price level in Norway. How did I do it? Check out the miles and points thread by GE or jump into Flyertalk for the more ambitious. The resources are out there, one just needs to commit to it.

3) Cheap eats
Since breakfast was already taken care of, I basically had one full meal plus snacks/cereals/etc a day, which averages to about 30EUR a day. I basically stuck to lunch specials at Chinese/Indian or ethnic places, which ususally cost about 15EUR. For snacks etc, check out Deli Luca, which seems to be all over the city. They also have discounts for students, and one staff girl insisted on giving me a student discount solely based on my young looks [Image: wink.gif]

4) Transportation
Can't comment too much, as I stayed in the center and walked to all attractions. Day/night game spots were all <5min's walk from hotel. I did took the tram once though, and seriously couldn't figure out the payment system used. As there was no sales machine at the stop or on board!

5) City layout
Orient around the main shopping street Karl Johans Gate. The west side is more classy, with royal palace etc and you will mostly see Nordish people or wealthy tourists. The east side around the main train station is more ghetto-like, especially at night, where I at times wondered if I was still in Oslo or even Europe based on the people around [Image: wink.gif]

6) Language
English is universally spoken, but not as fluent as some advertised. Quite a few speak in rather choppy fashions.

7) Games, guys, and girls (finally!)
The girls are hot, period. Especially for those into nordic blondes. Rarely saw a truly unattractive girl (even most chubby ones have pretty faces), and quite a few stunners.
Guys dress really well. I dressed quite sharp and was complimented a lot while I was in the US (Chicago, New York, Boston) earlier, but in Oslo I just blended in.
Game, this is by far the most competitive environment I have been to! Kinda remember seeing posts claiming that Norwegian dudes are passive and don't do sh&t and women pick them up instead. Where did they go out?? Or did they even go out at all?! At every bar and club I went to, there were hardly any chodes standing still in the corner with a drink. Instead, pretty much every guy was social and flirting heavily with the girls and *very* physical, and hitting on multiple girls one after another. Many of them seemed to be naturals and quite alpha. It's quite a sight when clubs close at 3am, outside on the street every guy still standing was "proposing" to every girl still standing. When didn't work out, the girl right next [Image: wink.gif]

8) Game locations
Day game on the west end of Karl Johans Gate. Since there are both top tourist sites such as the Royal Palace and a major metro stop (National theatre?), you can game both tourists and locals and there are tons of girls. Also many cafes, deli's and bars for instadate. Consider the high competition in clubs, day game provides high return on investment [Image: smile.gif]

Friday/Saturday nights there are options all over, just like in any other city. For Thursday night, check out Horgans. It's a very happening bar, packed from 11pm-01am while I was there. For club, check out Lawo, it seems to be jumping every night Thur-Sat and default gaming location for many locals. On Sunday night, there is an alternative place called Ingelheim(?), with live performance and quite packed.

Well, that's my whirlwind impressions of Oslo. Haven't written so much since grade school *haha*

As an outsider I am also mystified by the back and forth of Oslo/Stockholm threads about how good the competition's game happens to be.

It sounds like they have better game than the average American high end club goer. Probably not by much though from the sounds of it? It definitely sounds like they are more social animals in large mixed sex social circle groups that go out compared to Americans.

It always sounds like EE is a much better value proposition. Estonia for blondes etc...

Thanks for the report. These different views are always appreciated! +1.

Even better, it's 2for1. So the stay earned me enough pts for a few free nights in e.g. Budapest [Image: smile.gif]

Thanks for the kind words and you are welcome [Image: smile.gif]

Of course people all have their own perspectives ("cognitive filters") and I just reported back as objectively as my recollections would allow.

The gist is Norwegian guys are far from passive feminised metro pushovers as some posts suggest. Finnish guys, though, are indeed the nicest "chodes" (I do like them [Image: wink.gif]) and girls equally hot. So I'm heading for Helsinki again [Image: smile.gif]

Yes, EE would stretch our hard-earned $/EUR much further. Was in Tallinn a couple of years ago but the city/old town felt quite empty/deserted (in late September). Had a hard time finding sets and ended up gaming most of my time at a major bus stop [Image: wink.gif]

@camford from what you have seen and in your opinion would the best way to game in Oslo be thru social circle?

Travesty444 - I was in Stockholm for a weekend in early September, I didn't notice the local guys being aggressive.

Oslo I visited a few years back and the men were passive, to be honest it seemed easier than Stockholm.

Could it be the women are changing?

If you could understand Norwegian, you would find that Norwegian guys have no game. They just talk shit at the girls until its time for the bar to close and the women realise that they better fuck someone before the weekend is over.
Seriously, all you need to do is keep their attention until the bar closes at 3am.

The less fucks you give, the more fucks you get.

Since I was visiting only for a few days, I can't really comment on SC. Gaming in Oslo is still quite possible (both day and night), you just need to step up your game, especially at night. I can recall several occasions where I just hesitated a few seconds and the girl was already swooped up by other dudes.

If you stay long-term in any city, sure, build and use SC.

Haha, this might well be true! And I think it's a quite accurate summary of what I saw [Image: wink.gif]

On the other hand though, if they can just keep talking blah blah at the girls and combine this with physicality, and stay with them till close -- that sounds quite an efficient game plan for me... Of course you can go in higher energy to take over their sets, but then you still have to chill down and just talk/physical/bounce till close, isn't it?

I wouldn't call it aggressive, but rather "active" [Image: wink.gif]

Was there for only a few nights so I definitely do not have a large enough sample (time of the year, venues, or even the particular people mix on specific days could all play a role). Just my impressions and perspectives, as objective and balanced as a 4-night trip can be [Image: smile.gif]

Might visit Stockholm in December. Will report back then.

Have definite plans for Oslo in Jan/Feb thru work.

Would the cold weather at that time of year make things tricky?

Not sure yet where I'm going to be the incoming week.
I let you know if I'm around.
That could be some great fun in this dark and grey autumn.

Sounds like standard nordic game. Why overcomplicate things?

I've never been to Norway. However I met lots of them during holiday in Malta, Spain and Greece.
To me they didn't look like alpha at all. They were well built and well groomed but they were kind of mild tempered and shy.
When they got drunk they got feisty and "alpha" but you can't judge a person when he is out of control.

Furthermore, some of my italian friends who went in Norway to do exchanges told me the same thing (ie guys are not alpha and they get drunk to go after chicks) and even the few Norwegian girls I met told me that local guys are boring as fuck so it's strange what you experienced there.

I don't have first hand experiences in Norway though...I definitely wanna go soon!

Nordic people have different values than southerners. You say shy, I would say reserved. On the other hand, typical 'alpha' Mediterranean behavior could be considered crass, loud, obnoxious.

Mild tempered or agreeable, these are innate qualities treasured by Nordic people. To get along with people without causing too much conflict.

Alchohol has been the main social venue for thousands of years. In the old norse sagas, there are more verses on how to drink and when to drink, than on any other topic. You will be considered a weak man if you can't keep up drinking. Most Nordic people believe that a man's true character will show when drunk because facades can't be kept up. Therefore, friendships are built when being drunk and girls don't have much of a problem with the drunken approaches. They've seen them since they very young teenagers.

By the way, girls you are hitting on abroad always say they men are boring or rude or dull or something else.

A lot of Nordic women have very positive view of Italians and it is the original fantasy of the exotic, passionate southerner. It's definitely, possible to use this for gaming them, just make sure to make it clear you're Italian since a lot of guys from Turkey and other countries in the region claim to be Italian.

Nah but in Norway, they really are fucking boring.
I lived there for 3 years and I think I discussed the weather or traffic for at least an hour a day, every day.
