Best of Thailand for a solo traveler

Where are the best areas to party as a solo traveller in Thailand? I'll be there in late November to mid December and don't mind being among other western tourists as I prefer white girls to Asians. In saying this, I will dig into the local cuisine and have already began gaming Thais online.

At the moment I plan on

1) Bangkok (time in Sukhumvit and Khao San Road)
2) Pattaya
3) Samui/Phangan OR Phi Phi
4) Phuket

Would you suggest Phi Phi or Samui/Phangan (including the Full Moon Party) for that leg of my trip alone?

What is the best way to meet girls? I prefer not to stay in hostels as I like my own space. I also hear a lot of Thai clubs are terrible for solos as people tend to stick to their groups?

Any other tips for a solo, 23 year old male in Thailand?

Hey man.
I recommend you to use the search function.
There is so much info and stuff written about Thailand.
Some stories are entertaining as hell so that alone makes them a good read.

There is nothing like the first time in Thailand.
Enjoy.

In the tourist hot-spots there will be many foreign girls in the bars popular with foreigners.

Yes Thai clubs and bars (which are usually 95%+ Thai people) have a table system which makes mingling difficult, but the bars popular with foreigners do not. They are 'mingle friendly'.

Getting your own room in Thailand is usually dirt cheap. For less than the price of a hostel bed in Japan I had a hotel room in Thailand.

You might want to reconsider Pattaya....second story I have read about foreigners getting shafted by the Police there.

Here's the deal with Thai girls: you will not sleep with a "good Thai girl" if you are there are vacation. If you are a farang (foreigner) and you want to meet a good local girl from a good family, you will have to live there, be a man of value and pursue her on their terms and definition of courting. Nothing will progress without her family's consent.

Any Thai girl, no matter how great she seems, that's willing to sleep with you is a bar girl. They may not ask for money straight up... but you will pay them one way or another. Now with that said, its not necessarily a bad thing. Spending a few hundred baht a day on a good looking/fun Thai girl is way cheaper than western dating. Just know shes done this a million times and will do it a million times more after you're gone.

Skip Pattaya, that shits nasty. Old European men banging 20 year old Thai hookers.

Chiang Mai: Pleasant northern city, conservative and lower tourism rates than the rest of the country. Good for a cultural experience.

Bangkok: Big city full of shopping malls, but plenty of fun to be had. Great temples, rooftop bars overlooking the city, backpacker district (Koh San Road) filled with western tourists. Pollution, traffic and noise. Spend exactly 2 nights here.

Phuket: Go-go bars, shitty beaches (literally) and a ton of western tourists. A blast for a weekend then you'll want to get out.

Hua Hin: Low key local's destination. The king has a palace here. Nice beaches, good kitesurfing and a mellow vibe. Not many westerners.

Koh Samui/Eastern Islands: Filled with Aussie and Euro tourists. Better than Phuket. Take an excursion to Koh Tao for a fun scuba atmosphere, non-backpacker westerners aged 25-35 with real jobs back home.

Of all of Thailand, I had the most fun on Koh Tao. Made friendships that will last a lifetime. The most vivid memory I have is jumping off the dive boat with a bunch of my new friends, watching the sunset and then diving 60 feet underwater to see what sea life looks like at night. Surfacing an hour later to a boat party... which quickly descended into half naked Scandinavian girls and unlimited liquor.

This doesn't mesh with anything I've seen, heard from others, including posts by other members of this forum (e.g. RioNomad) and talking to young expats who lived in Thailand, or experienced myself. I have never, nor would I ever, pay a single cent to sleep with a girl, and some of the hottest girls I've ever had so far were Thai, and none of them after more than 2 dates. Not to mention that on top of that there is an open 'gik' culture (promiscuity). I remember one Korean student in Thailand expressing their digust to me about fellow her Thai students casually talking about their multiple boyfriends. Normal Thai girls are not hard.

^ Yeah, that's not what it's like, but it's true that if you're a first time tourist with no local knowledge, no language skills, no cultural understanding or local wingman and haven't pipelined, then it is going to be quite unrealistic to find a non-pro in 2 weeks.

Particularly in Pattaya, Phuket and Samui, unless you deliberately seek out girls you actually see working a job, then chances are if you go to a club that it's going to be full of semi-pros and pros.

The major difficulty is that you will likely be staying in tourist areas and be inundated with cute girls and won't be bothered to seek out the non-pro places, which in Bangkok's case are not really fit for solo gaming anyway with a few exceptions. It's not just that, it's also that if you're inexperienced, it can be quite difficult to spot who is a pro and who isn't, and you're not likely to want to do diligent research on that while a sexy girl in a tight skirt is grinding on your dick.

The data sheets have a lot of good information and there are plenty of guys to meet up with plus Thaifriendly.com, go out with some girls at thai places just to get going, grab numbers and so on and stay in an apartment not a hotel, would be my recommendation.

I'll be in Thailand for six weeks from the start of November. Though I'm sure my plans will change a bit along the way, I'm trying to put together a tentative itinerary, based on what is only slightly more than a backpacker budget (for the basics anyway, accommodation, food, local area transportation - got a decent chunk of money set away for entertainment).

So far I've booked six days in Bangkok. After that I think I'll head north to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, possibly staying up to two weeks if I like it there (too long if I don't plan on spending too much money on a slew of guided tours around the area, but only a few?).
Then I'm still trying to figure out if there's anything particularly worth seeing in central Thailand? Erawan National Park sounds like it's good for a daytrip - but then I don't know if it actually stands out from what I'll already have seen of the northern nature, and I suspect I'll be tempted to see the Pattaya depravity first hand for a few days. Other than that I'm not sure if there's anything else I absolutely must visit before I head south.

As far as the south goes, I'm currently set on possibly skipping the east coast and just spending a couple of weeks - or whatever is left of my time by then - on the west coast. Phuket sounds quite expensive in high season (would probably break my average daily accommodation and food budget, based on the prices I've found even for cheap rooms), not to mention that I'm not 25 anymore (38th birthday in Bangkok) so I think slightly more peace and quiet would be preferable for a good portion of the time.
I'm thinking the Krabi area - Ao Nang and the surrounding beaches - might be a good choice? And then some days to visit possibly Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lanta and possibly a couple of days in Phuket at the end if I feel like it.

Are the east coast islands different enough - in a positive way - from the west coast islands, that a visit to Ko Samui should be almost mandatory for a fairly long trip like mine? If it's just another interchangeable place to watch 20 year olds stumble around drunk and high, I'm sure I can live without.

RIslander's post isn't that far off. I was just in Thailand for 2 weeks.

It would be possible to get a SNL or 2 date bang but only if your strategy is tight. Pipeline like a motherfucker. Every single girl is going to ask you 3 things:

"Do you live in thailand?"
"How long have you lived in Thailand?"
"How long will you stay in Thailand?"

You'll need to lie through your teeth obviously to give them the impression that you're there for good and you're ready to make babies. Probably best to rent through airbnb rather than a hotel so it looks like you have residence.

The only pickup scene that I saw was at Route 66 and at a couple bars on or near Soi 11. But many of the Soi 11 girls are probably working.

If you want to pick up girls "western style" then just go to Route 66 every night. Seriously.

As far as banging girls in the other tourist destinations, you're only gonna be banging European and Australian tourists, which is like shooting fish in a barrel by comparison.

Yes, Route 66 is the best, though it seemed like there are more foreigners by the day and also some semi-pro looking girls sneaking their way in now. It's a far cry from the first time I went there 8 years ago. Plus the double pricing makes it rather obvious that it's on the tourist trail by now. Kao San also has potential and the bars around the area, claim you study at Thammasat Tha Prachan right around the corner and preferably go in a group. Lots of more adventurous hipster/liberal chicks go there. Levels in Suk 11 has lots of pros but also tourist chicks and non-working girls. Probably your best bet if only a few days and you can do typical loud nightclub game. Hang out outside in the smoking area and move in. Got with a Mongolian girl last time.

If you bang semi-pro for free, it is still a notch. Who cares if she's semi-pro with other "farang"?

I got that impression from the forum member I was there with. There were quite a few farang there, some solid competition actually. Still, we would make the rounds and there was plenty of obvious attention from farang hunters but these were typically in the 5-7 range for me. The 8s that you see walking around there seemed to be a bit more conservative and elusive.

Yeah, I haven't been to Route 66 in a few years and it sounds like it has changed a ton. I may just give it a miss next time I go to Bangkok.

'Tourist game' is very, very different from 'resident game' here. So for that reason I would recommend:

Levels, The Club (Khao San) and Route 66

There are plenty of semi-pro's in the first one. However, there are also plenty of 'party girls'. They will have ridden farang dick before and you wouldn't want them as a girlfriend, but a lot of them are hot and up for a ONS.

In terms of Khao San, you can find all sorts really. I know a lot of 'normal' Thai girls who love a bit of Khao San here and there. Just dress well. I'm gobsmacked how many guys will go on the pull in a Chang wife-beater and cargo shorts. Very easy to look like 'the cleanest' person on that street by sticking a fitted white shirt on. I hate backpackers. but you can pull something OK here.

In these two places I act the same as I did in Taipei/Britain. i.e 'Western-game-oriented' (if that makes any sense).

Then there's Route66 as has been mentioned. Korean tourists love Route if that's of any worth (never pulled one of them from there though. Nearly got a Bhutanese flag once but it all went to shit when we were leaving because of her cock-blocking brother).

Long-term: VERY different. If you can, make friends with a heterosexual Thai-Chinese guy and hit-up the Thai-Thai clubs. I'm only just starting to see the tip of the iceberg that is 'The Thai man's Thailand'. Dear fucking lord my friend has it absolutely made in terms of girls. I'm jealous as hell. (Some online Apps can get you nice girls too, write them off at your peril.)

In the Thai-Thai places I do best when I act like (a non-Beta) Peter Parker (you may laugh and press the report button, but the really nice ones actually want a 'traditional' guy. We're not in America). (Though this probably wouldn't work as well if I wasn't tall, blonde and British). This avenue is slow if you just want notches, but I'm liking it a lot. I'm basically having to unlearn everything I learnt in Britain. I don't think many farang see this side of Thailand at all. Some of these are incredible.

Bangkok is a great city, there are so many layers and I feel as though after nearly a year I've penetrated fuck-all of it. And that's what's bizarrely great about it.

In my opinion, you should either come here for three days or three years. Anything in-between a 'short notch-hunt' and a 'long-term journey' and you may leave feeling unfulfilled.

I have done Thailand to death.
But the best time was when i went to Kohn Phangan 7 days before full moon party.
Never has so much sex in my life.

The full moon party itself attracts like 40,000 people and it is complete chaos. But the nights leading upto it are more quiet. Well, there are still thousands upon thousands of people going ape shit. But you can move around a lot more and its more comfortable.
The nights after however.... the place is deserted.

So always go to Koh Phangan atleast 5 days before the full moon party if you are going to stay there for a week or so.

Phuket, I wouldn't even bother. Its great if you are with your mates from home, acting like a bunch of ass-clowns. But I wouldn't bother going there alone. a lot harder to meet other travelers, and really, not much to see.

The less fucks you give, the more fucks you get.

I just wouldn't go there. For me if a women is selling pussy-time for cash, I don't want to touch her. Had a pro I was dancing with reveal herself when she said 'OK we go home now, 1000baht'. She then said 'OK for free' when I walked away, answer was still 'No, sorry'. If I did that I would not count it as a notch because I wouldn't want it on my record. That's not to judge men who do, but for me it's below the line.

You've really got my interest with this post. Give us some more details. What are the names of some of these clubs? Can you get your friend to send them to you in Thai script?

I became obsessed with going after the super-hiso, "unobtainable" girls in Bangkok during the latter half of my stay there. I ended up lucking into meeting some pretty famous Thai celebrities through this rich girl I was dating, but I feel like I missed a lot of opportunities to do awesome shit because my game wasn't tight enough at the time.

RIslander's post is spot on and refreshing considering that too many Thailand posts on this forum basically go like this: "Oh yeah it was so easy to bang chicks. I literally had one pick me up at the airport, she came right to my hotel, and we banged. Thai chicks are sooo easy (if you are white). I never ever paid and I banged 15 girls in two weeks!!"

The reality is that the segment of Thai girls who are around foreigners (pros and semi pros mostly) is a VERY small part of Thai society. Most Thai girls are actually rather conservative and family oriented and would be extremely reluctant to date a foreigner on a shot term vacation. The expat guys living in Thailand long term have the time and patience to figure out what works and doesn't. The guys on short term trips are probably just getting used by pros and semi pros in KSR and Sukhumvit and either not figuring it out cause they are too naive or just ignoring it and treating it as a legit notch anyway.

Overall, when it comes to gaming legit Thai girls who are completely removed from any pay for play business, Bangkok is not a great destination. I'd say that richer Asian cities such as KL, Singapore, HK, and Shanghai actually offer a better opportunity for foreigner guys to score with a legit local girl. There are actually few bars or clubs in Bangkok where you can properly game legit chicks like in a western club. Route 66 has been inundated with foreigner guys.

I agree with your post, though I got a laugh out of this part because that's almost exactly how my first night in Bkk went.

Got picked up at the airport by this accountant from TF, went to her apartment, banged, slept there, and moved in to my apartment the next day.
Though to be fair I'd pipelined like a motherfucker and skyped with that girl for a while before getting there.

Edit: Also, am I the only one here that doesn't like Route? I'll go there for a night during Songkran, and maybe once every couple of months otherwise. It may be great for short term tourists but you can do a lot better if you're in Bkk long term.

The 'Thai clubs' are mostly boring and have crappy music playing. You could count Nung Len as a "Thai club" with the lack of westerns that go there. The girl don't want to be seen talking to westerner and do there best to be polite but move away.

You also need to get social proof'd like a mother **** in them places. They are not my idea of fun as I like to just get drunk and have a good time, I find a lot of these 'thai clubs' have a chip on their shoulder in regards to westerns.

I've been told Zaleng is much better n terms of this, but heard a lot of bad things in regards to violence so I tend to stay away.

Zaleng and Nung Len are attracting a very different crowd. Zaleng is in Ratchada Soi 4, a nightlife area famous for young low class Thais while Nung Len is in Thong Lo and gets visited by the (young) rich, famous and the many wanna-bes. I would say that all places are safe as long as you don't mess around with the wrong people and hit on the wrong girls...

Zaleng also has no ID policy so you may want to check the ID of girls before leaving just in case.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Fallabella either. I think this is the Thai'est Thai Thai Club in Thailand.

I'm sorry I just don't know where this is coming from. I never brag about girls being easy for me, they are not easy, but Thailand wasn't bad at all. Like iop890 said, you've got to be putting in the effort though. It's always sporadic, but the more effort, the more sporadic it is in your favour.

And I've never seen 'richer cities' equal 'more lays'. It is the opposite correlation. The more your 'kind' is associated with 'higher status', of whatever sort of status, the easier lays are.

This is not to say that the long-stay expats aren't doing better, one guy (expat 6 years) showed me his girlfriend, and she was very beautiful. But to say that short-stay guys are only getting whores and then lying about them being whores, simply flies in the face of reality. I cannot see how a girl who goes on a date or two with you, who looks nice, who likes you, and who sleeps with you several times following that, is not a 'legit normal local girl' just because the country is 'Thailand'.
This hurts my brain.
