Peru Accommodations

Lima

Eurobackpackers
-Price: $15/night for a private single with shared bathroom, $10/night for 7 bed dorm. You get 10% off if you join their hostel network, which takes 2 minutes and is free.
-Location: Pretty good. It's in Miraflores about a 10 min walk from Kennedy Park and a 5 min walk from Larcomar. Lots of bars, clubs, restaurants, gyms within walking distance. Safe to walk around even late at night.
-Crowd: Despite the name, a lot of the clients are non-backpackers. Families, old people. There are some young backpackers there, but it's not a very social environment.
-Food: The breakfast is nothing (two rolls and tea) but they've got a large kitchen / fridge which was often unused.
-WiFi - Free, fast, and great reception in the rooms.
-Other: The weird thing about this hostel is that the guest rooms are in a separate building from reception and reception can't buzz you in - you need the receptionist to walk you next door and open the front door for you. This makes it kind of a hassle to get in and out BUT it means that if you have a private room it's trivial to sneak girls in. Either invite them over when you're already in the building and let them in (reception can't see you) or come back with her and just have the girl wait a few feet away from the door while you get it unlocked, then let her in when the receptionist goes back to her desk.

The Point - Barranco
-Price: $15/night for a private single with shared bathroom, $9-11/night for dorms
-Location: Good. You're in Barranco, which is the "bohemian" neighborhood in Lima. There are lots of clubs and bars within walking distance, but it's a little sketchier than Miraflores as far as walking around alone late at night.
-Crowd: It's a party hostel with a lot of young backpackers.
-Food: Free breakfast is bread and tea, but they've got a kitchen all day that serves up cheap food that's okay tasting.
-Other: The bar here is pretty cool. Almost all the guests come to the bar at night and it attracts hot local girls who seemed to be pretty big gringo chasers. At 1 AM, they organize cabs to take everyone to a club where you get in without paying cover.

Great detail. I should probably work on coming up with a review template.
