Fence-jumper made it farther in White House than Secret Service let on

The man, 42-year-old Omar J. Gonzalez, ran unobstructed for 70 yards across the front lawn of the White House before entering through the North Portico. On the way, he brushed by a Secret Service officer with a drawn gun, sources tell CBS News' Bill Plante.

Gonzalez then proceeded to run through the entrance hall to the cross hall of the White House, past the staircase that leads up to the first family's residence. He was confronted by a female Secret Service agent, who he overpowered, and made it all the way to the East Room, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told CBS News, citing whistleblowers. Gonzalez was brought down by a door leading to the Green Room, a parlor adjacent to the East Room, which is used for formal events including bill signings, press conferences, receptions and ceremonies.

White House fence jumper has previous weapons violations on record
Previously, it was reported that Gonzalez only made it through the north doors of the White House - which were apparently unlocked - before being apprehended by the Secret Service.

The agency declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation into the incident. The White House says the results of the review will "further enhance" security.

"He had just gotten inside the door [of the North Portico] . . . And was then wrestled to the ground by one of the Secret Service personnel . . . in the foyer," former Secret Service Director W. Ralph Basham, told CBS News, explaining his understanding of the apprehension. Basham spoke with current director Julia Pierson as recently as this weekend.

Basham said that he believed "as soon as the individual got in the door . . . he was apprehended by one person."

Secret Service shortcomings have Congress demanding answers
The major security breach occurred Sept. 19, just minutes after President Obama, his daughters and one of their friends boarded the presidential helicopter for a weekend getaway to Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland. The first lady had traveled there separately. It prompted the Secret Service to erect a second fence about 12 feet further away from the White House than the permanent fence, creating second barrier that would-be fence jumpers would have to climb.

Officials originally argued the reason agents didn't shoot the suspect, Omar Gonzalez, as he sprinted across the lawn or release guard dogs to detain him was because he appeared unarmed. In fact, he was found carrying a two-and-a-half inch folding knife with a serrated blade and his car reportedly contained 800 rounds of ammunition.

The revelations will only heighten concerns about an agency that has had several high-profile security failures in recent years. On Sunday, the Washington Post reported that it took agents four days to realize a man had fired bullets that struck the White House in 2011.

Members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are set to grill Secret Service Director Julia Pierson Tuesday during a hearing that was first called after Gonzalez jumped the fence and entered the building.

"I don't see people being held accountable and I don't see changes that make the security situation better, so part of [the hearing] is to discuss the perimeter at the White House but I think the problems are much deeper seated than that," Chaffetz, a member of the committee, told CBS News Sunday. "There are other incidents that we might talk about but we're also going to reach back during her tenure to review what has happened and not happened."

In a separate interview, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-California, told CBS News that it will be very difficult for the American people to trust the agency after the last incident.

"There is nothing that can be said public that's going to cause the American people to have confidence after the Secret Service failed to lock the front door as part of its protection of the White House," he said.

What?? Are you suggesting that maybe women are not strong enough to be near the last line of defense for the president and his family??!! [Image: rant.gif]

Now this would mean fuck all for our last remaining freedoms if it happened, but it would be quite ironic for Barry and Michelle to be done in by their own feminist bullshit. They obviously wouldn't admit it if it did happen, but still. Wonder what the guard will look like with Hillary...probably all male, cause otherwise Bill would get at them all...

I'm tired of this charade of putting women in positions that need to belong to men and risking lives because of some PC /feminsit bullshit.

Nice find, I had no idea that the situation was worsened by a female being at a critical point of defense.

There are loads of incidents of inmates or thugs overpowering and even killing female officers:

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/114899129.html
http://www.kpho.com/story/22926300/az-fe...by-inmates
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/01/20/fem...on-inmate/

In a sane society, the people tasked with guarding inmates would have to meet strict physical standards, such as body weight or strength requirements. Instead, we put women in death's reach in the name of equality.

The typical PC procedure is not to actually risk the lives of women, but to hire more men to compensate for the physical inadequacy of women. And then everyone is mystified as to why the ranks of officers have grown while effectiveness has not - and no one will point out that the hiring of the weaker sex is responsible.

Wait a sec, so the Director is a woman too? Of the Secret Service???

Appears so. She's the first.

I know absolutely nothing about the Secret Service, and admittedly have a very Hollywood impression of the agency.

But it seems to me, that the people in charge of protecting our political leaders should be the absolute cream of the crop, BAMFs from seal team six, rangers, special forces etc.

Some interesting background:

Quote:Quote:

Pierson was already the agency's highest-ranking woman before being promoted to director.[7] She is tasked with improving the image of the USSS, following the Summit of the Americas prostitution scandal.[1]

Remember those secret service agents that got busted for banging Colombian hookers? I'd be willing to bet those were properly red-blooded males with a high level of testosterone and a killer's instinct. They all got dismissed or resigned, and in the wake of that "incident", 'ol Barry decides to put a woman in charge for the sake of national image.

Because god knows, when it comes to national security, image is more important than merit.

I'd also be willing to bet that, in the name of public image, Julia Pearson started hiring a higher percentage of women for the USSS.

It's simultaneously infuriating and satisfying to watch shit go down like this. People will learn, no doubt through a tragic series of events, the idiocy behind progressive gender-neutral policies.

How ironic would it have been if Obama, who loves talking about women being equal and the so called war on women, would have been killed because a woman was in a position she had no business being in and failed miserably when it came to doing a job clearly meant for a man?

There is only one good reason to have women acting as guards for a president.

It is thus:

His troll job was sublime when he rolled into Italy and met Berlusconi.

Of course, Gaddafi ended up dead, and apparently his harem bodyguards did too.

It is nice to see the PC world order is prepared to sacrifice even the president's life in the altar of political correctness.

Now can you imagine how much they will hesitate to sacrifice your life...

How is this possible? Why wasn't this guy shot? Imagine if he had a bomb or suicide vest with him?

While I often complain about the militarization and gung-ho behavior of law enforcement, some areas should rightfully be off limits. Sprinting past security into White House should result in you being shot on sight, no warnings beforehand.

If this would be considered excessive force, just have the security use electroshock weapons like tasers so no one gets hurt.

I'm glad the guy wasn't shot, he was a multiple-tour Iraq veteran who had part of his foot blown off by a bomb.

I bet the WH has foot-thick ballistic glass / polymer windows and Kevlar insulation on the walls now.

The real threat is from aircraft; I bet they have Close-In Weapons System or similar protection on the roof.

Major cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy here.

On the one hand we have President Obama repeatedly telling us we need a Violence Against Women Act and a Council on Women and Girls to protect women. We all pay for these things.

But on the other, President Obama feels women are strong enough to not only run the Secret Service, but to be agents as well. I'm sure we're all gonna pay for this too, in some awful unexpected way.

In Obamaland, women are simultaneously frail, yet fierce. They need protection, but yet are somehow qualified to be the protectors.

The United States has become like an absurdist British farce, filled with contradictions, and the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Only it's not funny.

Basic strength requirements to find out if you're strong.

- Front squat
- Overhead press. Both strict and push press
- Other movements

On every footing a woman fails like-for-like to match a man in these. I truly believe that guns make law enforcement lazy. Why does some fat fuck who is gassed at 100m jogging or some weak woman get the power of life and death in their hands?

I'm always having these points of view arguments with random women recently about how hard they'd punch me if I upset them. Or how tough they are. This problem is really widespread and needs to be fixed before more idiotic women put themselves and others in danger.

Would it be an effective political strategy for Republicans to campaign against female affirmative action in the armed forces using this incident? Eg,the same standards for both sexes in combat and critical troops.

I'd love to parade around the issue that this raises, but I'm not sure that it would be an effective electoral strategy - is the populace too far gone or too scared of being 'sexist?'

Hollywood is to be blamed for a lot of these delusions too. How many times have you seen perky titted Scarlett Johansson kicking the shit out of some hulking linebacker looking guy?

Little girls all the way up to full grown women internalize these things because their self image is easily manipulated by pop culture. They are too naive and have never been in any real danger in their comfortable and pandering suburban upbringing. They have a childish concept of violence and danger.

Then these women feel they have something to prove and file apps for U.S. marshals, secret service, or some other LEO outfit. Then they expect princess treatment and society is all too willing to give them special female perks. These perks include more stringent sexual harassment "protection", cushy assignments, and "relaxed" standards.

I bet this agent thought the whitehouse was going to be a high profile cushy assignment to bump her status and career. Her superiors probably thought it would be a good place to put a woman too. Great photo ops and press about how "diverse" the whitehouse is without even considering the real danger involved. The president should demand no less than ogre sized former special forces guys to protect his ass and not some post wall slapper who probably slipped into the secret service on two different affirmative action checklists.

Well yeah. Damn pc crowd is so stupid. All it takes is honesty...

At 5'9" and 165 lb, I don't ever expect to be a major intimidating factor in almost any major venue (barring Asia maybe) like night club or big crowd, since there's guaranteed to be guys much bigger than me. It's just reality.

Yeah if I have a gun I could shoot them, they can threaten me without using a weapon. BIG difference.

A female Secret Service agent gets bumrushed IN THE WHITE HOUSE and fails to stop an intruder. I wonder how the PC and SJW crowds are going to explain this one.

Wait, wait I've got it... "he assaulted her with his male privilege and she was frozen in place at the raw patriarchy rushing past her".
