Ab Pavelizer - is it worth the purchase?

Ab Pavelizer - is it worth the purchase?

I've been reading Pavel Tsatsouline's books for a while now and even though he hypes up the soviet connection hard, I think he has some valid advice. He has this thing that he promises to cook the abs but it goes for almost 100 bucks on his website and about 50 something on amazon. It's called the ab pavelizer and it supposedly allows one to do a Janda situp without the need of a partner. Has anyone used it or looked into it and is it a quack ordeal or what?

Allegedly the Janda situp eliminates the use of the hip flexors which puts even more work on the abs.

Here's what a Janda situp looks like:

Here is an image of the Ab Pavelizer which faciliates the emulation of this Janda situp.

Worth it or nah?

Seems like a waste of time. Besides, abs are made in the kitchen. The only ab exercise I do is hanging leg raise. Price? $15 pullup bar.

Yeah, there are cheaper ways to get abs. Also having a six-pack, and this is coming from a guy with one, is kind of overrated. I'd suggest saving your money.

This is for abs strengthening, nothing to do with getting a 6-packs.

Janda situp is really fucking hard, although I'm not sure if the device is worth the money. I'd rather do it with the band or just use a training partner.

Just buy the big ball. No need to lay on the floor and it doesnt stress your neck. I made 8 pack shape by working on that for a month (just couple times a day)

All these wonder devices are just a waste of time and money.

My attitude is "If old school bodybuilders didn't need em, neither do I".

regardless of your workouts, you will not get abs. its all about diet.

You lot are derailing my question. I've been working out much longer than I have been conceptualising game. The Ab Pavelizer doesn't promise to reveal the abs, it promises to work them harder than other ab exercises by taking the hip flexors out of it.

Saying it's about diet is an elementary statement for someone who just picked up a set of dumbbells a year ago. That is not me.

So, my question was, is the ab pavelizer worth it for what it promises?

I would say it looks like a waste.

I don't have the device, but the Janda situp as an exercise is worth it.

I once introduced my training partner, who can deadlift 3xBW and likes to work his abs hard every session, to the Janda situps. He can barely do 5 reps. I'm also a 3+xBW deadlifter, can do a few standing ab wheel rollouts and manage about 10 Jandas, just.

The way we do it is to have a training partner pulling on your calves. Obviously it's easier with the device. It's a really tough abs exercise.

I'm not sure if the device is worth it though from a practical standpoint. I like rotating my abs exercises (have about 4-5 in the arsenal) and I don't really spend so much time with one that it needs a special device - the ab wheel excepted because it's pretty small.

I have lots of books by Pavel, and while he likes to hype stuff up (I do enjoy the communist jokes though), his advices work. Many little tips I get from Beyond Bodybuilding, Power to the People, Relax into Stretches, Strength Stretching, Easy Strength etc. have made me a much better lifter well beyond what I thought I was capable of.

It seems like a gimmick. Janda situps might be difficult but look at the picture of the guy actually doing them - he's using resistance bands on his feet. Those are likely much cheaper and more portable than a Pavelizer. If you're sold on the Janda situp then using bands seems like a solid bet.

For regular ab work I would just get an ab wheel and start working on a standing ab wheel rollout. Practically nobody can do those, even from the knees. Hit up Jim Bathurst on beastskills for the tutorial and Ross Enamait if you want to see a guy straight up dominate the rollout.

I can do an ab wheel roll but not standing. I tried janda situps in the gym yesterday and used two kettlebells to keep my feet planted. Maybe that might be it.

Just to clarify, are you trying to strengthen your abs for any specific activities/sports?

Or is this designed to strengthen them while promoting hypertrophy so they are larger and more defined when visible?

Use the ab wheel. It's cheap and it's without a doubt the best device for ab work I've come across.

Follow Ross Enamait's progressions to get you to full standing roll outs.
