Career focused women are having ‘Egg-freezing’ parties

WTF!! This is pretty sad, what is this country coming too!!

Fashionable New York professional women gathered at a first-of-its-kind “egg-freezing party” this week — where they sipped champagne while learning how to scientifically put off motherhood until they decide that they’re fully ready.

Dubbed “Let’s Chill,” the event was sponsored by a company called EggBanxx, which is cutting the cost of egg freezing and marketing it to young go-getters who want to be ready for kids later in life.

“I don’t have a significant other . . . but I hope to one day and have kids,” said attendee, Donna Kanze, 35, of Manhattan, who has a career in the technology sector. She’s already signed up for egg freezing.

“I want to take my fertility into my own hands, rather than put pressure on the person I have my next relationship with,” she said.

“I don’t want to be in the position when I’m in my late 30s and panicking because I haven’t found the right man and I’d compromise and take anyone off the street!”

Kanze’s feelings were widely echoed among the 70-strong crowd of young women who attended the company’s $45-a-ticket egg-a-paloooza Tuesday at the NoMad Hotel in Midtown.

When EggBanxx’s marketing director Leahjane Lavin, 34, announced that she just underwent two cycles of egg freezing herself, the crowed whooped with approval.

“The pressure is off, and I feel so empowered,” she said, of her feelings after she socked away her eggs for a later date. “I can now concentrate on my career and becoming who I want to be before having children!”

During the event, the attendees got a crash course in egg freezing, such as how the ovaries must be stimulated with fertility drugs for 12 days before her eggs are harvested while she is sedated.

EggBanxx’s prices average between $6,500 and $7,500, compared to between $13,000 and $15,000, the amount it claims could be charged elsewhere.

At that price, egg freezing can make life in New York’s notoriously tough social scene a little less stressful for more people.

“I don’t want to keep thinking about my biological clock,” said Nancy Noel, Nancy Noel, a 32-year-old nurse. “I’d rather store my eggs now while they are young and healthy and use them when I’m older, say around 39.”

"Why sure, honey! I'd much rather have a child with your frozen eggs than wife up a young, healthy woman," said no sane man ever.

Beyond that, I'm not getting how any women or man would want to be a first-time parent over age 40. Again, I'll state my mother was 42 when I left for college. She was pretty youthful (still is), but would not have been up for chasing after a 2-year-old.

The phrase "you can't fool Mother Nature" is a cliche for a reason, and I'll bet there are some other, left-field surprises in store for people who do this. IVF babies have more birth defects. What will this portend?

(Addendum: I left out the fact that these women can "breed" their eggs with sperm from donors. In between the emotional effects of this and the donor kids spending all their spare time tracking down their "dads," this should keep a lot of shrinks and private detectives really busy.)

Raising kids is a young persons game with both sets of grandparents close by (trust me).

Five years from now they'll be organizing "Sperm Donor Parties" with gays and broke college students.

They'll jack them off then run to the toilet with a turkey baster

This should be a good business opportunity. Host the parties, take their money and throw out the eggs. Everybody wins.

So this is what the most educated and richest women in the history of the world celebrate...

I hope nobody here invests in The Onion because they're fast going out of business.

She's shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. Modern women are spending the majority of their lives planning for adulthood to start.

Her eggs - assuming she's in peak physical condition for her age - were 87% fertile at 20. At 35, 52%.

Already a 1 in 700 chance of having a baby with Downs at 35, with greatly increased chances of premature birth, low birth weight, eptopic pregnancy and placenta praevia.

After all that, she has to carry the baby to term, when she's finally ready and feels empowered enough.

At 35 - miscarriage rate is 25%.

At 40 - 33%.

At 45 - 75%, with a spike both maternal and fetal mortality during childbirth.

Fertility specialists recommend starting your family by 35, but at least she has the comfort of a high disposable income to now waste on IVF, assuming she's paid off her student loan debt.

When she will be ready for a child? At 50? Or when she retired from her "very important" career? If everything is more important than having a child, maybe you should not have one at all.

I want to have big muscles to be a bodybuilder and impress girls but I have no time to go to gym now, I am working on my career now. I will wait until I retire and then start bodybuilding. I expect to compete and attract everyone's attention at the beach by my 70ties.

Don't worry, Donna. When future doctor-archaeologists finally implant that fertilised ovum into your wizened, ossified womb, you'll be glowing:

Well, at least you found the exact kind of woman for which you wouldn't want to fertilize her eggs! That has to count for something.

I just contacted a local age management doctor about getting hormone testing done...I'm 31 so it would be good to have a baseline for the future. Among the woman's response back to me was...

"Also for the record..I think 31 is the new 20...so you are waaaayyyy off from middle age."

I didn't care enough to call her out, "Is that really how women think or just age management clinics? Because it's a proven fact an average man's testosterone starts to drop around age 30."

This thread reminded me of this line. That's how stupid people are.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

don't get too worked up, it was a party hosted by the company selling the egg freezing. Either way, i predict the handmaid's tale in 50 years...these old, yet rich women will have their eggs implanted in young women while telling their beta husbands not to be attracted to them (the surrogate moms)

When I first read the thread title I thought these women were learning how to cook. Should've known better.

I did some research and found a pic of the one of the ladies at the party:

She hopes that egg freezing will keep her dream alive of one day having a big family.

One caveat: this is NYC. Media people love to present things that happen in NYC as what's happening in the rest of the country ("trends"), but it is not so. NYC is definitely not America.

Breaking news: Healthy females put off child birth for careers.

Give me a fucking break, no man in their right mind would want kids with a 35-40 year old woman. All their doing is putting a red flag on their head for men to steer clear of them.
