I have an iPhone and an iPad, and I'm a big fan of apps. I thought I'd do a little post reviewing a few of my favourites. If anyone has any more, definitely add to it, could be a good little resource.
(No jailbroken apps since I have no experience)
iPhone and iPad Apps
IMDB
If you're a movie buff this is essential. Better designed than the mobile site and just great to use.
Dropbox
If you're not already using Dropbox, you should be. It's a cloud storage solution for your files, and you get 2GB free. The app allows you to access, but not edit, your files from your iPhone or iPad.
Photo Transfer App
Allows easy wireless transfer of photos that you take or save on your iPhone or iPad to a different iPhone or iPad or a computer.
Instapaper
Lets you read your articles on the move, once they've been downloaded. If you read a lot of RSS feeds and you're not using Instapaper, you're missing out.
Pleco Chinese
I'm travelling around China and having this with me has been so useful - if someone doesn't understand me I type the English in here and the Chinese characters appear that they can read. Haven't had a problem yet, although it didn't have ear plugs, but that's been the only missing word so far.
TuneIn Radio
Any radio station in the world, and I mean any station, streaming live anytime you have a wireless connection. Did every station I could think of, even my old University station, without a hitch. Also lets you record live, or schedule recordings, and listen to them later.
Wolfram Alpha
Hard to describe so I'll just stick in the wikipedia entry. I've found it incredibly useful so far, and I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do. Incredibly useful.
"Wolfram Alpha (styled Wolfram|Alpha) is an answer engine developed by Wolfram Research. It is an online service that answers factual queries directly by computing the answer from structured data, rather than providing a list of documents or web pages that might contain the answer as a search engine would.[4] [5]It was announced in March 2009 by Stephen Wolfram, and was released to the public on May 15, 2009."
