Roosh, How's Iceland's Economy?

Hey Roosh,

How are things looking in Iceland? They let their banks fail and supposedly their doing better than a lot of other nations but how are things on the ground over there? How do the people feel about the government stepping back, and not taking the losses? Just curious, since you're over there...

A story in Bloomberg suggest they did the right thing:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-02-01...payer.html

Unlike other nations, including the U.S. and Ireland, which injected billions of dollars of capital into their financial institutions to keep them afloat, Iceland placed its biggest lenders in receivership. It chose not to protect creditors of the country’s banks, whose assets had ballooned to $209 billion, 11 times gross domestic product.

...

The crisis almost sank the country. The krona lost 58 percent of its value by the end of November 2008, inflation spiked to 19 percent in January 2009 and GDP contracted by 7 percent that year. Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde resigned after nationwide protests. With the economy projected to grow 3 percent this year, Iceland’s decision to let the banks fail is looking smart -- and may prove to be a model for others.

“Iceland did the right thing by making sure its payment systems continued to function while creditors, not the taxpayers, shouldered the losses of banks,” says Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz, an economics professor at Columbia University in New York.

The icelanders are going through pain but it's hard to tell on the street since you don't see homeless or beggers. The clubs pack them in on the weekends too, so it feels like the u.s. and absolutely nothing like South America.

Around March I start dropping Icelandic knowledge. Wrapping up my research now.

Are you on Iceland now Roossiie thats fofo. One warning, we northern people like to fight and icelandic people are notorious happy about that.. heard that Reykjavik turns into happy slapping land each evening

Guess that norse blood still makes us crazyer than most... about the economy its funny how the icelanders where buying big chains in Denmark before the crash and playing gods... I laughed hard whenl the booble bursted... FFS they have built the sickest infrastructure for a redicolous low number of people, when everything comes down it should still like the rest of the north be vessels states to Denmark, they would be better off [Image: smile.gif]

Now they´re all poor... sob..

Also beware of the rotten stuff they offer you, they like to dig down sheeps eyes and fish that is left to rot and delicous specialities.. havent heard about anyone not puking eating any...

Pretty religous people all around.. religion still means something places like that..

Icelandic women can be redicolous hot, but Ive yet to meet any Icelander not raving mad..

Let me fill you in if you dont allready know this..Iceland was populated with people that was fleeing primary Norway, but also Denmark and Sweden, so to speak criminals that was outcast and could be killed at sight...

Later Erik the Red after killing alot on iceland was outlawed there and when to greenland, where I think harsh winter killed the norse colony...

Greenland is norse marketing nice fancy name, for shitty place.

Looking forward to report, especially funny stories... culture stuff.. How to avoid a fight in Reykjavik etc.. [Image: biggrin.gif]

I do admire your courage to be a frontier and just put yourself out there Roosh, Rio´s favella and Iceland.. ends of civilization... hope you stay for summer, because the winter must be awfull there!

I love hearing about inter Nordic dynamics. A lot of it is really humorous stuff at times (like Quasi's thoughts).

Roosh, looking forward to your Iceland exploits.
