How many hours do you spend on passive activities?

I still watch a few TV shows per week, but I used to binge on a lot more. Same with reading one manosphere article after the other or constantly refreshing TRP or whatever forum I was on.

A very deep lack of discipline was the cause of this. Lack of discipline and a sense of self. Operating from a place of "minimal mindfulness"...just letting things happen, not having the balls to really take control. What made this worse is some cognitive dissonance: I thought I was in a better position than I actually was.

I've been able to abstain from drink for a bit over 3 weeks now. My new challenge for this month is to slowly spend less time online. Put in about 2-3 hours spread over the week or just on weekends to check/respond/post online...e-mails, forum posts, so on and so forth. And only 2 episodes per week when I feel like it.

Passively staring at my laptop does not make me happy. No shit!

How many hours do you spend on passive activities?

There was a good tip in the top tips thread that was to add an extra obstacle to get to whatever passive activity. Say turning your computer off, locking the screen, putting it somewhere like up in a cupboard. The extra step will not only cause you to think but it may be just too much to do and stop you from doing whatever you were gonna.

But quite a bit, i'm a chronic procrastinator. Although I quit playing video games, watching videos on youtube unless I'm doing something (Elliot Hulse while eating breakfast for example) I spend too much time messing about reading when I should be writing.

How do you define a passive activity?

I don't consider surfing the web and reading books to be passive.

Since a lot of the things in my life can be traced back to something I read or found out/emailed/discussed on a forum etc - so I do see a slow and steady return of sorts on such activities.

Whereas watching TV or a film - just feels like a total dead activity. In that you never really find something new out which you can then explore further down the road.

I use Tv to clean my head at night, have a laugh, stop thinking about bills, and clients, and the fucking car broke again, and bla bla bla...

So its therapeutic.

I agree that the internet is the 'new TV'. Which is why I don't judge those who watch TV - since the internet has taken the role that TV used to have in my life.

But - I think the internet is an improvement. Even if you don't use it much to create content or reach out to people.

At least it is a break from 40 million people sitting down at the exact same moment - to watch the exact same show on TV.

I think in the future it will seem a little people that a little box in the corner of a room could control millions of people in that way.

Like something out of '1984'.

I love the internet - my nickname for it is the 'infinity machine'. Since I use it in so many different ways.

When I tell you that my other nickname for it is the 'porn box' - you can probably guess what one of those ways is.
