I love the people that vandalize his work. Recently a guy was arrested for doing so in LA.

I think this is more profound:

I think he's underrated.. it's art. Your ass is talking about him, so he is getting in your head.

I didn't bring him up.

Also, just cause something gets in your head doesn't mean it's art. Think about all the terrible pop music that gets stuck in peoples heads, all the throw away memes.

It's not that I don't like his stuff, it's that he gets put on a pedestal for no good reason.

Yup.. keep on rationalizing about it, buddy. Especially when you come up with a rebuttal.

On second glance this piece would've been more truthful If it was just the girl doing it.

I like much of Banksy's stuff. This in particular is on point.

I don't live in a city, but if I did I'd love to have street art like that all around me.

While it may be more accurate to have only the woman gazing at her phone, it's actually good game if only the man is doing it:

Side note, how much poon is Banksy missing out on by remaining anonymous?

I know this isn't contributing but how many smilies of roosh do we have? And also where are these clips from?

But returning to banksy I like street art even poorly painted train graffiti because it reminds me there are people who still rebel even in a society where our balls are in vices.

I like Banksy, but I feel sorry for him at the same time. He is a talented artist and his pieces do what art is supposed to do, but because he's reached popular saturation he is now seen as part of the same hypocritical mass culture he attempts to shine a light on.

That's the problem with being an artist: as soon as you become successful you're accused of selling out and being on the same side as The Man, so it's like a choice between being viewed with integrity and being inconsequential, or being viewed as a sell-out but having your work reach more people. The curse of success.

If I were Banksy I would respect the people vandalizing my own work in a way.

I'll be honest. Banksy has grown on me over the years.

It was annoying when he 'cool' and hip. But now that he is still plugging away - I respect him more. A bit like how I respect Bob Dylan for plugging away instead of trying to just live off his legend.

I dunno' if any of that makes sense - but it does to me.

cardguy, it makes sense but it's based on a (widely shared) overvaluing of the supposed virtue of artistic integrity.

The only thing that really matters is whether an artist has real juice and can produce inspired and memorable art. The civic virtues of "plugging away" instead of "living off one's legend", or of refusing to "sell out", or whatever other hoary cliches people like to talk about, are entirely irrelevant to that sole decisive point.

As for Bob Dylan, while I'm no particular fan of his, he certainly had a real height and that came quite a bit before either of us was born. Musicians of that kind peak young with very, very few exceptions -- and once they're done, they're well and truly done. I don't mind looking at Dylan's grizzled and marinaded Jewish head for a few indifferent milliseconds, but the idea that whatever lamentable deadweight he is still extruding at this late stage of the game is something one would ever listen to is a ludicrous one. And in truth I'd much prefer that artists who were possessed by genius at their height would not keep plugging away, but would be allowed to go to some paradisiac location of their choice to enjoy a well earned extended retirement spending their money and living off their legend.

With regard to "Banksy", I can only LOL at the triumphant banality of his mural and its "message".

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

I am not a fan of Bob Dylan.

I just think it cool that Banksy is sticking at his thing - when a 'cooler' guy would quite whilst he was still ahead.

His art is pretty banal - but at least it has a message which can sometimes be relevant.

I fucking hate art - so I don't care one way or another. All that Leonardo Da Vinci and Van Gogh shit means nothing to me.

So - I am kinda' on the sideline of this debate. Since to me Banksy is no shitter than any other artist.
