Spanish language phone frustrations

Hey everyone....my first post here. Hope someone can help me out.

I'm currently living in Medellin Colombia and trying to meet some women. My spoken spanish is decent but I have a really hard time understanding what people say to me in response. And on the phone, I find it 10-100x harder. I just got off the phone with a girl and I have honestly have no idea what we agreed to re: meeting. I asked her to speak slowly several times, but I still couldn't understand what she was saying to me. I've tried sticking to the phone script that Roosh lays out in Bang Colombia, but since the girls haven't read that, they don't stick to the script. [Image: undecided.gif]

I've also tried texting women a few times but almost all of my texts have gone unanswered. Which shouldn't be a surprise given what Roosh said in Bang Colombia re: Colombian girls and texting.

About the only thing I can think to do is to buy a better phone which might improve the sound quality. Right now I'm using a $25 cheapie that I bought in El Salvador.

Anyways, if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Sound quality won't help. When you are in person, subconsciously you exhibit body language which is a very large part of your communication. That's why it is easier to understand spanish in person. On the phone it is way harder because you can see any body language queues to help in your interpretation. For me, this was the same thing. After I was more familiar with the language and the mannerisms in Colombia, it was easier for me to have phone conversations. As you get more comfortable with the language, it will come.

rotflmao!! OMG this was sooo funny! Well, I guess you better start taking advantage of the "sharing/lending" features of Kindle and lend them a copy for their BlackBerry. lol.

I just got out of a very stressful meeting, and this made me laugh so hard! Thank you!

Oh yeah, about your dilemma. Nothing you can really do until you become familiar with customs and language. It took me, a native spanish speaker, to understand Colombian customs and how to game local women a good 8 months. 14 years later, I can just say 1 sentence toa girl and she is in my bed...but it's more about my vibe and confidence than my words.

Keep falling on your face and getting up - you'll get it. Hope time is on your side.

Thanks for the replies. Guess I just have to keep trying. I'm just still stunned at the lack of texting here. Roosh mentioned that in Bang Colombia but I'm still surprised. I lived in the Philippines where people are even poorer than they are in Colombia and I never had a problem getting a response to a text message. In fact, most people write you back in 5-10 minutes. If not, they're probably dead. Seriously. And if you don't write them back in 5-10 minutes, you'll get a text saying "what's wrong, why haven't you written, are you okay?"

Anyway, glad I made you laugh Mixx. My humor can sometimes be a bit subtle. Of course, if they actually had a blackberry, they'd also have the money/availabilty to send texts.

Obviously, I'm not going to give up yet...I'll keep plugging away. I'm here for at least three more months. Just signed up for spanish langauge lessons at one of the local universities. Talk about some eye candy! Granted most of them are young enough to be my daughter but I'm not complaining!

Fucking everything bro!! [Image: biggrin.gif] I seriously plan on moving there the latter part of this year, so any info is gonna help tremendously. Not just about the pussy, although that's the most important. Food, culture, security, things to do, ect.

Okay, some random thoughts...

1) I wasn't chasing women when I was there so I can't help you much there (sorry!).
2) There are some really nice looking girls in the shopping malls in San Salvador so I'd definitely recommend going to those.
3) I never felt unsafe in San Salvador but I also didn't "push the envelope" and I had a local showing me around. If you don't know anyone, I'd suggest using couchsurfing to find some people to show you around.
4) Intercity buses are incredibly cheap.
5) Food...well I'm vegetarian. And generally speaking, Central America isn't known for it's cuisine. So expect lots of beans and rice.
6) El Salvador is the least visited of the Central American countries so you won't have much competition from other gringos. The downside is that they don't have much tourist infrastructure. They do have an excellent tourist police force who will accompany you on outings, etc.
7) Salvadorans are considered the friendliest of all the people in Central America. When I was in Honduras, a really cute Salvadoran college student approached me to chat (unfortunately, my friend caught up with me about 10 minutes later and she decided she was more interested in my friend than me...I think it was his blue eyes).
8) Santa Ana, the second largest city in El Salvador , is hell. Ugliest city I've ever seen. And just about every little store was guarded by a private security guard.
9) Playa El Tunco is a great beach for a weekend getaway from San Salvador. Lots of locals go there for the weekend and there are TONS of hot women/girls. Unfortunately most of them will be with their friends/family.
10) Alegria is a cool mountain town that also fills up with local on the weekends.
11) Heard good things about Juayua though I didn't make it there myself. They have a food festival every weekend.
12) Suchitoto is the best colonial city in El Salvador and supposedly has a lots of art/cultural festivals on the weekends.

Hope this helps!
