Fat acceptance seminar

This was mentioned in another discussion, but really needs its own thread.

Swarthmore college had a fat acceptance seminar last week: http://calendar.swarthmore.edu/calendar/...n_id=33385

I can't make this shit up:

Fat Justice and Feminism

Start Date: 3/20/2014Start Time: 4:30 PM
End Date: 3/20/2014End Time: 6:00 PM

Nicole Sullivan and Cora Segal, two Boston-based feminist organizers, will lead a workshop on fat justice, which is a political stance that seeks to address the ongoing exploitation and oppression of fat people. From the war on obesity to the rise of deadly bariatric surgery, there is an unprecedented attack on fat bodies. This workshop seeks to map out the focal points of this oppression, while delving into the complex history of white supremacy and misogyny that created it. We will set forth an analysis and call to action to make fat justice a priority in women's movements.

Refreshments provided.

Funded by the Women's Resource Center, Dean Henry, History Department, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Interpretation Theory, and Worth Health Center.

This was so ridiculous, I thought someone fabricated it as satire before finding the link to the actual 90-minute lecture.

"Refreshments provided". Hmmmm....I have the feeling they served ice cream, candy bars, cake, and sugar-filled soft drinks.

Edit: Here's a write-up by someone brave enough to endure this lecture.

Someone needs an RoK article that says fat acceptance is only for fat girls.

It's all business. They know idiots will pay to attend. They will sit to listen how we shouldn't let the media define our beauty while they all wear the make-up that is advertised in the magazines that sport covers of women with "unobtainable bodies".

They're against an option that helps fat people not be fat anymore. This really happened. They're serious.

As a man this makes me sick. As a personal trainer this makes me even sicker. Every time i think feminists have done their worst they find a way push society down even further.

The level of denial needed to think excess fat does not make you sick is just staggering.

Those who belive it are too far gone, they are lost forever. They will never have the needed self-control to lose it.

I would just love to go and stand up and tell them that their entire retarded movement at its core stems from the subconscious insecurity over their inability to give me an erection

As soon as I saw "Refreshments Provided", I knew this was going to be good.

My question would be...what about being fat do they want us to accept? That it is healthy? It's not, says medical science. That it is attractive? To each his own, I guess, but one can't force people to find them attractive and many people just don't find being fat attractive.

The bigger the lie, the easier it is to believe it!! This quote really rings a bell for me!! Kinda like when Billy the Kid sold the Eiffel Tower twice back in the days!!!
