So I wasnt sure after highschool what it is I would like to do as a career.
What I did know is that I wanted to get into a trade and work and make money. I live in Ontario
After searching for jobs and trades I could get into online I found a thread on RooshV about working in Alberta on the oil sands and the money that was out there. After reading the forum this is what I wanted to do, go out there and make bank.
I immidietly got in touch with a contact I know out there who is trying to get me out there working on a camp ( just doing dishes or cleaning or something along those lines) high pay . Chances are good of getting out there but its not certain, its also not certain when. Most likely this summer.
It's been taking a while to get things going so In the meantime I landed a job at great company doing hvac, been there only a few months and already have a work truck and its a good place to work, everyone is cool, treated good and the more I wait to hear about Alberta the more I consider staying with this company. Im not sure.
Path 1. keep working at my current job, get my apprenticeship and certificates.
Path 2. Go to Alberta, work at the camp and save up the Do Re Mi and make contacts and land an apprenticeship. Im interested in Welding, pipefitting, steamfitting, Ironwork, plumbing maybe open to other things however.
Path number one is certain so long as I keep working hard. Never thought of getting into that trade really but its pretty interesting, always doing different stuff. Get to stay in Ontario where my family and friends are and for the most part I enjoy it. I will always be thinking of what would of happened if I went to work in Alberta though.
Choice number 2 is not certain. However, in my mind is my dream. Work hard, bank hard so I dont have to work till im 50-60 then retire like everyone else. Not have to worry about Financial Issues.
I want to save money for many years, get some land and hunt and fish till my hearts content. With the type of work and shifts there it seems very possible.
I will have the money to do what I want and provide for my family.
I will also have to leave my friends and family for long periods of time, and I think my family will be disapointed I dont keep my current job. My employer and the people I work with will most likely be angry im leaving after hiring me. I will also ruin the chance for someone I know trying to get into this company.
I`m 19, Looking for some thoughts and advice on my situation from the older folk, everyones opinion welcome though!
Just trying to decides whats best for my future. Sorry for such a long ramble.
