TL[Image: biggrin.gif]R; Woman "engineer"@ Github leaves because of sexual harassment.

1) Women @ party start hula hooping, "engineer" is mad that the men are watching

"Two women, one of whom I work with and adore, and a friend of hers were hula hooping to some music. I didn’t have a problem with this. What I did have a problem with is the line of men sitting on one bench facing the hoopers and gawking at them. It looked like something out of a strip club. When I brought this up to male coworkers, they didn’t see a problem with it. But for me it felt unsafe and to be honest, really embarrassing. That was the moment I decided to finally leave GitHub.

2) Mad at the founder's wife!

_____________________________________________
Adding to the already difficult situation was the wife of a founder whom she did not name in her email. Horvath says she did her best to distance herself from the founder’s wife, as well as the founder, for fear of being caught up in an unhealthy situation. But, as she told TechCrunch, she didn’t “move quickly enough.”

The wife of the founder asked Horvath out for drinks, which she agreed to. In her own words: “Of course I agreed, seeing as she was my boss’s wife and I’m always looking to meet women I can look up to.”

According to Horvath: “I met her and almost immediately the conversation that I thought was supposed to be causal turned into something very inappropriate. She began telling me about how she informs her husband’s decision-making at GitHub, how I better not leave GitHub and write something bad about them, and how she had been told by her husband that she should intervene with my relationship to be sure I was ‘made very happy’ so that I wouldn’t quit and say something nasty about her husband’s company because ‘he had worked so hard.’”

We are awaiting comment from GitHub regarding these allegations, and GitHub says it is looking into it. It’s not clear why this founder or his spouse appear to have felt threatened by Horvath’s employment.

According to Horvath, the wife went on to claim that she was responsible for hires at GitHub, and asked Horvath to explain to her what she was working on. The wife also claimed to employ “spies” inside of GitHub, and claimed to be able to, again according to Horvath, read GitHub employees’ private chat-room logs, which only employees are supposed to have access to.

Horvath called the situation, aptly, “bananas.”

In her email to TechCrunch, Horvath says she felt “confused and insulted to think that a woman who was not employed by my company was pulling the strings.” She also said she felt bullied by someone with perceived power and influence over her personal relationship and her career at GitHub.

You can bet that tech startups from now on will check a female candidate's history carefully to see if she was ever involved in any feminist activism bullshit.

I'm the first one to call out womyn for b.s. claims, but I'm actually holding back on this one.

Yeah, the hula hoop thing is b.s., but apparently the co-founder's wife, a non-employee, is coming to the office and perching next to this girl after H.R. asked the wife not to.

She's attention-whoring to get one over on a woman who snagged a more successful man.

or

The guy's wife felt threatened having her near him, and the complainer was incapable of understanding office politics.

Also: She's not an engineer. Marketing background.

Github's response is beta.

If you ever needed a single paragraph as to why so many American woman are not fit for the workplace (or much of society), this is it.

1). Irrational paranoia about men. How the fuck does she know what the "gawking" men were thinking? What if they were gay? Or what if they felt it was rude not to look -- like if they were turning away, they'd be slighting the women?

2). Causing insanity in the workplace. Why is it men never seem to have these gigantic public meltdowns over petty (or imagined) slights?

3). Inability to deal with the basics of life. Who the hell feels "unsafe" when men check out women (if they were even doing that?). If that makes you feel unsafe, I'd recommend never going out into society, turning on a TV, opening a book, etc. Get thee to a (cloistered) nunnery.

This reminds me yet again of Catholic school, where the nuns would create insane theatrics over imaginary "sins" the boys would commit. "He looked a a woman! He lusted!! LUSTED!! SIN!!"

You don't even need to read the rest of the article or know anything else about this situation to see that our society's gone way, way the fuck off course for this woman to be spouting this and not be considered insane.

Seriously, I read the articles up until I saw the bit about the hula hooping. Yes, when you're a 12-14 year old girl you're permitted to hula hoop without being cognizant of how it presents your body to men. When you're a 35 year old woman (est.) then hula hooping in the office sounds like you are purposefully attention-seeking. If women weren't all delicate snowflakes capable of doing no wrong, I'd turn the script around and point out how her behavior of doing this in front of men is sexually harassing them.

I haven't read all that, just some of her original post. It sounds to me like her worst problem was with another woman, i.e. the founder's wife. SHE sounds like a piece of work.

Pro tip: don't let your wife take on any sort of unofficial position in your company. It doesn't end well.

Just read some followup on this: http://online.wsj.com/news/article_email...ODExNDgyWj

Some highlights:

Quote:Quote:

The company contracted with an outsider, Rhoma Young, to conduct an investigation. Ms. Young concluded that there was no evidence of gender-based harassment or a workplace inhospitable to women. But she did find a poor division of personal and professional boundaries at the company that exacerbated a conflict between Ms. Horvath and Mr. Preston-Werner and left Ms. Horvath with no easy path to get help. The investigation found no evidence of misogyny in the workplace or any evidence against the coder accused of altering Ms. Horvath's software code, according to Ms. Young.

...

In email exchanges with the Journal, Ms. Horvath maintained her claims and called GitHub a "toxic" workplace. She has said she is satisfied that it has been more open with the results of its investigation.

...

The majority of employees interviewed said they were too scared to speak publicly to defend GitHub, worried about the double-edged sword of social media: Speak out and face the wrath, or be silent and feed into the suspicions that GitHub is not supportive of women. On Twitter, one female technology worker, Shanley Kane, wrote, "all you people who worshipped GitHub for years are complicit in their culture." Another Twitter user, Noah Slater, said GitHub was "complicit in the abuse, harassment and silencing of women across the tech industry."

TL;DR - The case played out exactly as any RVF member would've predicted: An independent investigator found Horvath's claims without merit, Horvath refuses to recant her claims, and the majority of employees interviewed by the WSJ felt intimidated against speaking about the case by the prospect of being excoriated in social media.

The wife has a hyphenated name? Not sure if Horvath is making everything up (sounds likely) or the wife is a piece of work and Horvath is making up half of what she says.

Nah, I agree with not_dead_yet. Either the wife works there or she doesn't. That was where the company fucked up. Horvath is a crazy bitch but having the founder's wife get involved trying to be the HR person they didn't hire is a terrible idea. HR exists to manage risk from employees suing you. Sad but true.

I used to work for a startup where the founder's wife had no official position but was constantly involved in shit. It was a complete fucking train wreck.

More proof that feminism is about giving low SMV women an equal chance against more attractive, higher SMV women by curbing/restraining male sexuality.
