I've recently gotten active in the CS community. I think it's a cool thing, not simply for girls, but in general. I've already met some really cool people in town who are adventurous, like to travel and just like to do fun shit. So it's worth it for that reason alone. I agree strongly with one of Pablo's statements. You really do have to get those references. Girls that are considering you will read your profile references carefully to see if you seem safe. And that's understandable. You think about it it's pretty crazy that a girl will fly halfway across the world and stay in some guy's house that she's never met and doesn't know. So starting out can be tough to get your first surfers. I've been on two months and the only request I got was from some guy who looked like a drifter which I quickly denied. I think my profile is solid. I have a nice pad with photos of it up as well. A decent profile showing me being social and having an active life. I've got some positive references but they are all from locals and friends, not people I've hosted. I think the main thing that hurts me is that I live in the suburbs and most people that come to L.A. want to stay with hosts that live near the beach or Hollywood. So if you live in a prime location with attractions close to you, you'd be a fool to not be on CS. If you live in the 'burbs it will be tougher, esp in a city with shitty public transit like here since most these CS travelers don't seem to rent cars.
You can also meet foreign girls in town by browsing the city forums. Many traveling girls will post that they are here for the week and looking for people to hang with. You can then contact her and if she replies, take it from there. I'm going to be hanging with this foreign girl later in the week who is on vacation. We'll see what happens...
You can also attend group events and parties. Or throw your own. When summer gets here I'm going to start proposing beach meetups and volleyball games on the sand and send invites to foreign girls traveling through town looking for something to do. I think CS has good potential.
And a few more tips that I think should help if you're going to play around with CS: Get identity checked and location verified. They charge you a small amount but no biggie. It just shows that you are who you say you are and it puts your name higher in the ranking when people search. Also if you can get "vouched for" by someone else that is trusted, your name will be even higher up. And of course the more positive references you get and the more people you host, the higher your name moves up the search rank too. If you live in a prime place like Manhattan or Miami Beach, have a nice place, you are identity checked, verified, vouched for and have a resume of positive references, these people may get dozens of requests A DAY.
