20 Years from Now - What Skill do You want to Be good at

My boy posed this question to me, and I really had to think about me 20 years from now, when i'm not obsessed with stacking bills and banging 25 year olds.

Play an instrument?
Speak several languages?
Billiards?
Something related to my current profession?

So think about yourself 20 years from now, you want to be a seasoned pro/veteran at something...what is that thing?

Flying and/or sailing. Both are going to take a decent amount of coin, so that's first.

I think this is a great way to help in achieving desired goals, visualize the end result and work backwards. There are many things that come to mind for me, but the no.1 skill I want to be truly great at is Jiu Jitsu (no gi). I started training about six months ago and I can honestly say it has enhanced many aspects of my life. A possible end game scenario for me would be to open a school back home

For as simple as this "what do you want to be when you grow up" sort of question is, I think it is an absolutely fascinating idea to think about. Fascinating enough that I actually stopped what I was doing to sit down and think about it. It goes along the lines of the "what would you do if you won the 600million dollar lottery" when you buy that one ticket, which I love to play.

I think for me there are two-ish areas I would like to be an seasoned pro at in 20 years.
1)Knowledge- I tend to get caught up in how many books I read in a month/week/year sort of thing and if I fall behind schedule I tend to lose focus. I am really good at thinking in longer terms in other areas of my life, but I seem to be short sighted in this regard. Even if I set a somewhat lofty, but not unreachable, goal of over 100 books a year and fall short and hit 80-90, that is still 1600-1800 books over two decades. Especially since I have mostly quit reading fiction, that is a lot of information and, combined with traveling and visiting historical places I love, should allow me to become an expert in a few areas.

2) Craftsmanship- The two crafts that I now focus on are woodworking and leather working. In twenty years, basically everything I own should be handmade of wood and/or leather and of impeccable quality. Chairs, tables, sofas, bookcases, shoes, belts, bags, luggage, etc. I'm aware that the hours required, to some extent, may not justify being able to buy something of equal quality and spend that time doing other things, but there is intrinsic value in learning, working, and creating and enjoying it in the process.

Good post. Definitely made me sit down and think a bit.

Tying knots and ropes in BDSM... If you get good at that you can tie up young slutty ladies at any age. I can't think of to many other ways to still bang young chicks when you are older other then paying for it. However if you are a legit with bondage there's always some young ladies wanting to be tied up. That was just the first thing that came to mind cause I was on Feltlife.com before I cam here ha.

I hope in 20 years I will be good at being happy and content. Thats a skill right?

What does it mean to be good at these things?

What's a guy twenty years older than you doing with these skills?

Expert abilitity at banging Latin girls who speak no English due to gangsta lean level Spanish skills.

Beyond that the goal is to build a company generating real money, currently only have one that is doing okay (ie profitable and growing decently) 2 Airballs and 20 years left to keep trying.

IMHO every man should try to build a company at some point in his life. Much better than handing over a few houses to his kids/charity in the future.

As I will be 65, I want to be good at small scale farming. Aquaponics, or hrydroponics.

To be good at electronics and woodworking means I can let my imagination run loose on the things I would like to construct, at an exceptional quality, just because I can.

Satisfaction in application, then mentoring others.

The languages, Australia is probably the most mono-lingual country in the world, I've always felt inadequate since the first time I left Australia and I'd like to eliminate that feeling. Those are the two language groups I would like to visit.

I framed my answer where I envisioned having optimal leisure time.

I mean some of the things you mentioned, I'm pretty good with guitar, and can play a sitar and a bit of piano and I'm happy with my finance career.

My body is getting better due to the influence of RVF, though I'm close to being an acute cripple due to soft tissue damage due to over a decade of rugby, so martial arts is out of the question.

So pursuing what's 'next' and desirable, that was my answer.

Languages, big time.

Spanish (I'm about 75% there)
French (just started)
Italian (I can get by)

In 20 years who knows. Maybe I'll do a year of Tagalog, or god forbid, take up Russian.

Be experienced in shooting a wide variety of guns
Box for a few years, do a year or two of some grappling discipline
Get my skiing down (pretty decent, need more experience in powder)
Better surfer (I can get by)
Ride a motorcycle. Something big and loud.
Get back into cello. I played for 3 years when I was serious about music. Great instrument.

Photography, Writing, and Drawing. In the meantime, Improve on my handwriting (I want it to look like art ultimately) and brush up on surfing and take up motorcycles.
20 years from now I'll be 45-46....Probably have a kid in college, and a lot of free time. I'd use the time to take pictures, draw fantasies, and tell stories.

In 20 years I will be an expert at helping people build their own businesses.

By then I'll be semi retired, have a belly, and a bunch of beautiful children running around. Luckily my wife will be young enough to keep up with them. [Image: wink.gif]

Big wave surfing. I'd like to paddle in to a proper 20-footer within the next few winters. If I'm being honest with myself, I already have the skill, but my fear threshold isn't there yet.
