Colombia blitzkrieg

Hey Guys

I'm traveling to colombia next month for 20 days, i'm tall ,latinamerican ,fluent in spanish and money is not a problem, my weakness is that i dont dance too well but maybe i can improve there. i just want to have a great trip [Image: smile.gif]
i have these questions though:
I was thinking in going mainly to bogota, medellin and cartagena. Give the amount of time
is it worth to go to Cali too? Barranquilla?
How many days would you spend on each city?

Thanks!

I don't know Bogota all that well, and I'm not crazy about Cartagena (overpriced, dirty beaches, panhandling), but I love the other cities in Colombia.

Medellin- Just a great city, basically a rainier San Diego when it comes to weather, and the Paisa girls have some of the most beautiful faces in the world. I would use Medellin as my home base, because it has awesome weekend nightlife and is the hub of VivaColombia airlines, so you can take quick flights to other Colombian cities dirt cheap. Girls are pretty easy to talk to outside of comuna El Poblado. Thursdays at 5 or 6 the Tres Cordilleras microbrewery in Barrio Colombia has a tour (tour optional, most people just drink near the bar) where you pay like $10usd and get five good beers to start the evening off right.

An hour outside of Medellin is a mountain lake town called Guatape. Not a great place to meet girls but an incredible place to take a girl. Just do a google image search of Guatape and you'll see what I mean, from the color-coordinated houses in centro to the lakes and the climbing rock, it's very unique. Day trip, at most spend one night.

Four hours from Medellin is Pereira, an underrated mountain city where foreigners have much higher exotic value. Girls and weather are basically identical to Medellin, it's basically mini-Medellin but not too small. I would stay a night or two in a hotel between Victoria Mall (day game) and Circumvalar (night game). The bottom of Circumvalar would put you in walking distance to both. I have had an easier time getting laid here than Medellin, I think because of exotic factor.

Manizales is about 4.5 hours from Medellin, a cool mountain city that's built along the ridgeline of the mountain rather than in the valley below. Needless to say, it's steep and has amazing views (even an active volcano nearby). Manizales is harder to crack- it's a huge college town and the reward is high- but it's still the most conservative city in Colo and the girls aren't solo a lot. It's only an hour from Pereira, so it might be worth a night. You want to stay near and go out in El Cable.

Cali is 3 more hours down the road from Pereira and a lot of fun- salsa dancing, darker, more voluptuous women. I pipelined on ColombianCupid before I went to Cali (twice) and was always rewarded instantly, so unfortunately I can't tell you much about gaming there because I rarely left the hotel. I stayed in the Torre de Cali, which seemed like the nicest hotel in town but wasn't more than $100 a night; I believe the clubbing area is called Chipichapi. Cali is at least worth a couple of nights.

Barranquilla would be a good trip for you, because you can take a direct one-hour flight there from Medellin on a Sun/Mon and early-week it. The Dann Carlton hotel is directly across the street from Buenavista Mall, which is a massive mall and a day-gamers dream and has plenty of restaurants, movies, Juan Valdez cafe, etc. Calle 84 is pretty good for night game, but of course better on weekends. This is a good time of year to go to Quilla because of the winter ocean breeze and the fact that they are gearing up for Carnival in a few weeks. The coastal girls aren't as pretty in the face, but they tend to be very curvy, even the skinny ones, and they are not afraid to throw down. The hidden spot in Barranquilla is a street full of nightclubs on La Ocho. La Ocho is Carrera 8 in a city where you really don't want to be under Carrera 38, so the surrounding area is sketchy as hell. But as long as you stay on the clubbing street, it is an awesome night game area with police presence and girls in tight dresses. Three days/two nights is probably enough in Quilla.

Scotian recently put up a West Coast Colombian datasheet that you should read; I've never been there, but it sounds like a really nice place and is easily accessible by air from Medellin. Another early-week option, I would think. Have fun; Colombianas are the best!

Cali is the only Colombian city that sketches me out a little. Just the feel of it. There are still some occasional problems on the Cali-Buenaventura highway (which you won't be on), so to the west of Cali I think there is some guerrilla/lefty sentiment. I never walked more than a couple blocks from my hotel, which was in the highest estrato, but I still felt like the dudes on the street were eyeing my shoes and watch, keep in mind that Cali is pretty warm so I wasn't even dressed up or anything. Other Colombian vets may be able to give you a better idea about it, but I'd just take taxis everywhere. You will see some fine-ass women there. Calenas are sexy as hell.

Santa Marta is great. There are two hostels there- the Dreamer and La Brisa Loca- that are almost as nice as hotels, so you can go budget without getting too backpacker. You get some really pretty Aussie girls going through those places. It's almost impossible to find a good burger in Colombia but there's a place called La Placita in SM that has them. A good place to go out is Taganga, the beach town that is $5 and 15 minutes away by taxi. That's where most of the backpackers shack. There's an open air 2nd-floor disco on the waterfront in Taganga where there are usually lots of girls (some pro/semi-pro, but this is Colombia, half the chicks are semi-pro when they want some new shoes). It's called Sensations, I think. The more upscale place to go out is Rodadero, also about $5/15 min away, I've only been to that area once but the talent was good. If you want to do a nature getaway, SM is only an hour away from Parque Tayrona (you can go by bus from SM or boat by Taganga) which is a remarkably beautiful national park (rainforest meets unspoiled beach). It's a great day trip.
