Anyone else like it? A lot of people think its just noise but some of those band's made some good rock music when they wanted to. The Buzzcocks sound more like a semi fast pop band than punk. I like going to shows but dont really like the types of fans at them. Usually real snobby if you look different and the girls are posers. Maybe theyre different in other countries?

Mc5, m.d.c., dead boys, stooges, iggy pop, the clash, buzzcocks, dead Kennedy's, black flag, minor threat, circle jerks, fear, dayglo abortions, d.o.a., sex pistols, d.r.I., angry samoans, bad brains, the jam, husker du, the damned, subhumans, t.s.o.l., toxic reasons, the crucifucks, crass, suicidal tendencies (?), killing joke

I'm always looking for bands with their own sound. I never got into the exploited, rancid, anti flag, etc.

What about NOFX and Bad Religion? I love me some NOFX, Punk in Drublic is one of the greatest albums ever made. In Australia, the fans just look like average people. Don't really get the spiked coloured hair with studded leather bracelets and chokers and shit like that anymore.. I mean they're there, but theyre a minority.

Are there really any new punk bands tho? No one really cares about the political aspect of it all, a lot of bands cashed in and went emo when that was big. I feel hardcore is the new punk with bands like my bloody valentine, parkway drive etc making a new kind of music. Maybe punk has had its day.

I'm going to Goezrock in Brussels in May. Looking forward to it.

I love me some punk, but I've been moving away from it over the last year. I'm just worn out by the scene and the new kids suck. The guys are effeminate pussies and the girls are pixie cut try hards for the most part. Actually, now that I think about it, they aren't punks, they're hipsters, and I fucking hate hipsters. I only go to shows when my friend's band is playing because it usually means I get to go on stage and sing some GG Allin.

Unsurprisingly that came out of D.C.

Everything that is shit comes from that city.

It started in D.C. when Ian McKaye (Minor Threat) wrote the song "Straight Edge". He never wanted it to be a movement though.

Kimber, I always looked at nofx and bad religion as pussy punk. Off! is a newer band and has Keith Morris on vocals. They sound just like circle jerks with 1 minute songs.

I went to a show a while back and a blonde Henry Rollins clone let me in free. Had the upper chest and mini workout shorts. He got on "stage" later to sing and had a bottle broken on his head by some drunk dumbass. Then he punched the guy who did it and broke his nose haha. I love when people start drinking and blood starts flying. Thats when the hipsters and girls start backing up!

I've been straight edge for years and I agree with this. Most sXe kids are asswipes.

As for punk, I love it but haven't found a decent punk band in years. The scene has been stagnant since like 2007 so I mainly listen to metal nowadays. I like old school punk but I've been burnt out on it for a while. About the only old punk I still jam regularly is The Misfits.

These days I like bands like Strung Out, Strike Anywhere, A Wilhelm Scream, The Swellers, The Flatliners, newer Propagandhi (despite their politics), This Is A Standoff, Tiger Army, middle-era AFI, We Are The Union, Banner Pilot, Teenage Bottlerocket, Crime In Stereo etc. Most of these guys either broke up or haven't made a decent album in a few years though.

I saw Teenage Bottlerocket with The Queers last year. I was no impressed. I don't really like that style of punk. They start of hard and fast, then it gets all poppy. I talked with the lead singer for a few minutes outside after the set. Seemed like a decent dude.

Pussy punk. Thats a bit rough aha. Punk is raw, but I've been to concerts that have gone both ways. I remember a small concert of about 100 people, where literally everyone left bleeding. I also remember a concert where the lead singer was so drunk he'd forget the words halfway through a song and just stop.

Wilhelm Scream and Flatliners are beers. Such good bands.

I listened to a lot of the bands on when I was a young buck, so I suppose I have no idea what the real punk scene was like. But i'm loving the fact everyone is bringing up bands that I haven't listened to in ages a la misfits, dead kennedy's, minor threat etc. Feels good to revisit a that time.

TBR is kind of a local band where I'm originally from so I've seen 'em like 20 times. Surprised they didn't do very well as they're usually pretty high energy. They're basically a Screeching Weasel ripoff (who in turn was a Ramones ripoff) so I can definitely see why you might not like 'em. I they do it pretty well despite the "can't get over her" lyrics.

Did you talk to the chubbier singer that always wears metal shirts or the guy with glasses who is twins with the drummer?

I never really liked the misfits either. Theyre probably the most popular band with posers because they're logo is kool!1 Someone post up that video of danzig trying to talk shit and getting knocked out [Image: laugh3.gif]

The chubbier singer. The girl that took me to the show was from their town. He didn't remember her despite her being at all their parties. They were high energy, I just don't like their style. The Queers put on a good show. Got to talk to the lead singer for a bit after running into him in the lower level of the venue after the set. I had more fun smoking cigarettes outside. I always say the real punks stay in the parking lot.

Edit (Danzig video): Note all the white knights that jump in to his aid and bitch at the guy that knocked him the fuck out. Fame is to men as having a pussy is to women. He started that shit, got knocked the fuck out, and the other guy is in the wrong somehow? Too bad it was before the time someone could yell "WORLDSTAR".

I met Rollins after a Rollins band show in high school and expected some huge monster. Dude was 5'7 and thin with that huge tree trunk neck. Still puts on a great show.

Has anyone read Get in the Van? Its pretty good if you're into black flag. I also met Greg Ginn last year after his solo show. I felt bad, there was hardly anyone in the venue after he finished.

Doesn't surprise me. I think that dude does a ton of drugs. He always seemed really spaced out and/or paranoid every time I talked to him. I wonder if I know your chick? It's a pretty small scene in that area, I'd almost guarantee we at least have mutual friends.

It seems like Scandinavia and ex-Yugoslavia produced some of the best punk bands. Brazil had some bad-ass groups like Olho Seco and Armagedom, too.

I grew up with punk rock and listened to many of the bands above and went to shows. They were great but I also think that they contributed to me being blue pill. The majority of the bands preach way to the left ideals and put the thumbs down to money and their girlfriends are mega bitches. That is at the larger scale but locally there were some inspirations. This story comes out of Toronto...

We were at the house of an aging guy in a punk rock band. I think the fact that he and his band were a bit older than the usual mid 20's punk rock band idealists lent to their perspective. He was showing us pictures of the "tit wall" in their van which was a polaroid collection wherein that was the pass for any girl who wanted to hang out with them after a show. He also explained that, in his opinion, girls have an expiration date and it is age 20. This was all while his 19 year old girlfriend was spiking his hair for him. 15 years later he is now alcoholic and homeless. A fate similar to Chi pig of SNFU. In retrospect, punk rock was fun if you only bought into 60% of it.

I used to play in a hardcore band. We toured fairly extensively and released a couple of albums. People always asked me "I bet you got laid a ton."

Nope.

My entire band was comprised of white knights. Even in my fumbling pre-game days I'd still approach and try to get laid. One time we were in some little town in Illinois and the guys wanted to eat at Taco Bell. I saw these cute high school girls. One was wearing a punk shirt. I walked up and told them "Hey, we're on tour and you guys probably don't have shit to do in this town so come see our band". The singer and other guitarist both were disgusted. "What the fuck man, those girls were like 16! Why are you hitting on them you piece of shit!"

The girls and some gay kid wound up coming to the show. When we went on, they got right up front, screaming for joy, tits a-bouncin' right in front of me. When we got done the one I'd talked to ran up and gave me a hug, then promptly bought every shirt and CD we had for sale. Like $100 worth of shit. I asked her if she wanted to see our tour van. The singer and guitarist walked up and stopped me. "If you do anything with that girl we've decided we're turning you in for statutory rape." It's like these guys hated pussy. What's the point of being in a band?

The best part is the singer had a girlfriend but was a huge chubby chaser. We went on tour through New Mexico and Arizona and I bet he fucked probably 7 or 8 morbidly obese Mexican chicks while his girlfriend waited at home. Saw him over the summer and they're married now.

TL;DR - Punk rock is filled with white knights and manginas.
