tells me not only you're most likely lazy because working legs hurt and are just looking for confirmation that you don't have to do legs but also that you're a kid that's only interested in beach muscles and will end up ridiculous with a huge upper body and chicken legs like so many I see at the gym.

Chicken legs are an exaggerated problem. The legs hypertrophy much easier than the upper body due to the presence of largely slow twitch muscle fibers. Just bicycling can build beastly legs. What most guys lack is a well-developed upper body and that is what women notice. It is simply the undeniable truth. A broad back and shoulders with big arms and a narrow waist will get you eye fucked everywhere you go. It is an evolutionary indicator of health and therefore demonstrates your higher value.

The idea that squats will also help your upper body is an unsubstantiated myth. Hypertrophy is caused by increases in localized muscle tension. It is the complete opposite of fat loss which is a whole body process.

This is filled with so much false info I don't know where to begin.

One, no bicycling will not build you "beastly" legs. I know many bicyclists was a mountain biker myself for years and the fact is that anyone who bicycles also does so for long rides, which is the enemy for muscle growth. Most of those I know who bicycle are toned sticks. It's the lifestyle they choose, so it's cool, but if you burn more calories than you can take in then you're going to burn anything that leads to muscle growth. And riding a bike alone for about 30 minutes then stopping may give you massive quads, but you'll end up having no calves or anything else.

Two, yes it's medically proven that squats do help other areas. Indirectly. The intensity of squats help release testosterone and HGH, which later on down the road when you're hitting the upper body does help in muscle development.

Three, this is completely on a medical and physical standpoint. You're sitting here talking about vanity and getting laid and saying hey if I look in the mirror I look good. The women will love me. Having a strong lower body doesn't have a damn thing to do with getting laid. It has everything to do with making sure you have strength in your legs so that later down the road when you do have 30 pounds of muscle on your frame you have enough to lift it so it doesn't overburden your heart and you end up having a heart attack at 45.

Won't be gaming much if you're dead will you?

Cut out all leg shit but deadilifts and squats. You don't even have to go that heavy, just do them.

They work a lot more than just your legs, hell they work a lot more than just your muscles. You build that mental toughness grinding out reps of squats.

+1.

Squats are known as the king of all exercises for a reason. There is no replacement for squats. Thinking of them as a "leg workout" is underestimating their role.

Sure you could drop them but why? You could stop working out too. Seems to me like OP wants people to give him reasons for not doing squats. Maybe lower the intensity a little and do more reps but don't drop them.

Also who says that girls don't notice? This shouldn't be your focus, but I've had several comments about my legs and ass from regulars since I started hitting the squats and deadlifts.

PM me for accommodation options in Bangkok.

Buddy,

You should squat just for the sheer pleasure of being able to move heavy weight...

These guys are SPRINT cyclists who undoubtedly do a shit load of deadlifting and squatting in the gym. The start of a sprint race is apparently very similar to a deadlift in that you need a massive push from a dead stop. I used to train with a high level sprint cyclists (international master's level). He would be squatting and deadlifting 4+ plates.

I used to get comments that my butt was "cute like a little boys butt!"

then I started doing starting strength.

I've been told twice in the last week that I have an awesome and rock hard ass. One chick told me she loved looking at me when I was standing sideways (shes got the cock and the ass then).

God'll prolly have me on some real strict shit

Sprinters do squats and even upper body work, but the vast vast majority of their training is doing short full out intervals on the road and track.

On not doing squats

Meh, I really love working out my legs. I do a set of front squats, dead lifts, and then rear squats.

If I don't work out my legs, I feel weird. The "taxing" effect on the CNS feels sooo good. A good leg workout makes me feel amazing.

Squats and deadlifts seem to power other lifts of mine. I feel stronger, so that is why I do it.

I look at a work out routine as a multifaceted endeavor. Do you want to be skinny, big, well rounded athletic? What are your goals?

Adjust accordingly once you answer that question.

With a proper weight-set-rep-rest setup, you can get a great physique, lean and built, v-tapered, on 3 exercises alone:

Squat, deadlift, shoulder press.

Unless you have an injury/certain limitation, it is a mistake not to have one of these or at least a variant somewhere in your training program.

It probably depends where you are in your training goals. I've learned to dislike heavy squats after 4+ months on Starting Strength, so I'm no longer doing them on the same days as dead lifts.

I think there is some kind of a hormonal boost but once you exceed a certain amount, it actually becomes more of a negative. I experienced overtraining symptoms pushing myself to do very heavy (based on my strength level, i.e. PR) squats every single workout. Getting under that very heavy bar elicits a certain feeling of dread.

The other things is I already have big thighs. They are like 28"+ or something (granted that is with high body fat). It's uncomfortable. I'm actually glad to see them shrinking a bit now that I'm reducing my food intake. I don't think I'll need to worry about chicken legs...I need to do more arm work to avoid the T-Rex look.

But in the end they are a full-body exercise and I believe they are good for you and work your back.

Supposedly doing them helps your dead lift (which is a lift I really enjoy doing) so that keeps me motivated because I do want to hit 405 (3 plates) on the DL.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Don't you mean 4 plates?

Or 315?

Yeah you're right Nasci I meant 4 plates per side plus bar... I can't add very well anymore, apparently.

If only you knew how bad things really are.
