End of year travel review - post your travel summary of 2013 here

Ok so it's still 2013 here in Mexico and it's been an amazing year!

Am getting my drink on at home right now and getting ready to head out and party into 2014.

From a travel related viewpoint, lets hear your story of 2013, where did you go and when?

There was a thread like this about this time one year ago and it was really interesting so I would love to hear about your 2013.

I guess I should get the ball rolling....

Jan - Spent last NY in Cape Town and the rest of Jan traveling along the whole south coast of the country and then up to Pretoria and J'burg.

Feb through April - Flew from J'burg to San Francisco in Feb. Flight paid for by a silicon valley millionaire dude who read my book and wanted to meet me. Nice! Spent most of the time in SF making a documentary but partied at the SFSX festival in Austin in April before leaving the US. SFSX was amazing as always!

May / June - Medellin, Colombia. I used to live there but had not visited for a few years so that was cool.

July - Sept - Flew to Vegas to play the world series of poker (with a stop off in Miami) in early July. Spoke at a conference on sexuality in Atlanta in Aug. Made my first ever trips to several US cities including Chicago, Phoenix (another speaking / book signing gig), Milwaukee (actually my favourite US city on this trip), took a side trip to Toronto by car (more documentary filming) and spent time in Boston, NY and Miami. Visited LA, met and filmed with porn stars (documentary footage only - don't get any ideas!!) and ended up at Neil Strauss's house in Malibu - bizarre!

Oct - Dec - Hit up Jamaica and Cuba (mostly Cuba) in Oct/early Nov with Naughty Nomad before decamping to Mexico. Just rented an apartment here and decided to stop FUCKING TRAVELING and work on the follow up to Sex 3.0.

Seriously I love it - traveling gives you a sense of adventure and a taste for life like nothing else in the world but, at the same time, travelling can be so fucking exhausting!!

In review a slightly odd year for me because I usually spend very little time in the USA (I am not American and I have not even been there since 2010) but I ended up spending about half the year there in 2013 for work related reasons.

My plans for 2014? Well I have been nowhere in central america so am toying with the idea of spending a few months hitting up every single country in central america.

Beyond that, I am gonna improvise. I have no idea where else I am going to be in 2014 but in that sense it reflects where I was exactly one year ago until some dude paid to fly me to the USA.

Would love to hear your story and your plans for the new year.

Happy new year to all the RVF members and here is to an awesome 2014!

JJ.

Well, Philippines Japan and Russia are always close to my heart. Everyone of these has their own cool attitude of women and culture and all three are very different.
Armenia also amazed me. Maybe the hottest women I've ever seen and the friendliest locals.

Very hard to answer this question. Every country has its charm.

Oh I forgot to mention, when I was in S.Francisco I actually ended up going to dinner with the founder of couchsurfing - yep the dude that started the website 11 years ago.

A lot of the research that I did when coming up with sex 3.0 was as a result of a round-the-world trip I did from 2009-2011 (2 years and 3 months in total) and meeting and talking about 3.0 with couchsurfers in about 50 different countries. He was curious as how an open-source sexual revolutionary movement started from couchsurfing.

It was a great conversation lasting about 2 or 3 hours. One of the highlights of S.Francisco definitely!!

Cool story JJR, what's the founder of CS doing now, didn't he sell CS?

For me, I went to India, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Germany. Haven't been back "home", the USA, for the past year and a half. But I think I need to go back to restock supplies. Specifically, I think I need an iphone if I want to stay in Ukraine. Was at Banana club in Zaporozhye tonight where almost everyone had an iphone. Meanwhile I'm trying to hide my fisher price android phone.

He is not involved in the day to day running of it but he still has a seat on the board so he is still involved.

So after all the namedropping and self congratulatory rhetoric, you've been couch surfing your way into girls pants?

That's "3.0"?

My very brief experience with couch surfing was that it was filled with budget travelers and women that didn't pass the boner test.
