Internet Privacy

After watching this documentary I've become a bit more concerned about privacy on the web:

I can only assume that some of you guys have taken measures to protect your level of internet privacy and identity. With the increasing levels of identity theft and the pervasive presence of online social networks, it is becoming increasingly hard to protect oneself. In a sense, we may all become celebrities, but not in a good way.

Anyone have negative experiences with privacy invasion and/or proactively done things to protect themselves online? The only things I can think of besides good anti-virus control is to not use the web and get off facebook.

Don't open an attached file before you know what it is (and who sent it).

Even an innoncent photo will contain an .exe that will install a remote keylogger on your computer.

I have hacked numerous people using their public info. People are too stupid to open things on the web.

It's not only .exe's.

There's a thing called Java drive by's that go undetected.

Use Linux, which I have been using last ten years. This alone will stop immediately 99% of those attempting to hack your machine, even if you don't have an Anti-virus.

Not replying to "your email won 10M USD" emails or those offering to share 100M with you once you provide your bank account will give you extra 1%.
