hiya
will be hitting up BA for 5 days couple of months from now.
can anyone recommend specific hotels or general areas of the city which are best to stay in? I'm particularly interested in things like proximity to good nightlife venues, shopping malls, restaurants, overall vibe. in terms of hotels i'm referring to the mid/upper range ones, not hostels.
gracias!

For your request, then you'd need to stay in downtown BA, close to calle Florida, which is one of major shopping areas of the town with some good shopping malls nearby. I was in BA only for a week about 3 years ago, so my memory is kind of fiddling. Another good area may be in the Recoleta and Palermo area of town, which have a more laid back feel with good bars all around. One advice I can give you, is under no circumstances should you get a) accept the invitation of the many touts, specially in downtown around the Florida area to and b) go the strip clubs there as these are major and I repeat major rip off joints. On my first night there as I was staying right on Florida, out of curiosity, I went to one of these strip clubs and within 1 nano second of stepping inside, I was surrounded by 4 or 5 old and ugly women that were all over me, asking me to buy them expensive "lady drinks" (think 60-80 bucks each). Needless to say, I was out of there in no time. So keep that in mind. For specific hotels, I hear the Intercontinental BA is a good option, not very expensive compared to other Intercontinentals elsehwere in the world. But then again, I am not the BA expert in here, so these are just my limited experience from a great city to spend some time but an awful place when it comes to women both in terms of looks than attitude and I couldn't wait fast enough to return to Brasil as I was coming to BA from Brasil. On the plus side, the food, specially the steaks are awesome and the wine is top class and so is going to la Bombonera to watch Boca live. If possible, to maximise your fun in BA, go to Brasil right before and get yourself a nice, fun and sexy brasileira and take her with you to BA then you'll have a blast.

No worries man, I wish I could provide more help but as I said, I was there only for a week 3 years ago but I'm sure there must be others in here who have been to BA recently and could perhaps chip in and give you some current suggestions?
When are you going there? Solo or with wingman/friend?
Here's the name of the hotel I stayed in at that time: Hotel Tango Argentina, right smack literally 50 metres from calle Florida and about 100 metres from the widest avenue in the world with the Obelisc, symbol of their independence. A great place to sit at one of the numerous cafes/bars/restaurants and enjoy the best steak of your life with a great wine and maybe a hottie or two on your side. Anyways, let us know how it goes as I am looking to get back to BA when I return to SA next spring.

am planning on going in March 2011; was supposed to go with 2 friends but 1 has already pulled out and wouldn't be surprised if the other one pulls out as well lol; if that happens would be cool to hook up with any guys from the forum who are there as well as i'm 100% certainly going
will be hitting up BA and cordoba, 5/6 days each
have used the search function on the forum to go thru previous reports on ARG and from what i can tell it's pretty fucking difficult out there in terms of poon but i've never been there and am mainly going for the experience.....and cute college ass of course lol

Sure why not, if she's a girl I get alone nicely, is sexy, sensual and she's fun to be with, sure why not, it's not that expensive really. The ticket depending from where in Brasil would set you back say 300/person, then once you're in BA, there are loads of good hotels inexpensively priced. But ideally, try to get a girl who's at least able to pay for certain things herself. If you are fluent in portuguese, have good and solid contacts there and an already established social circle, then you might even get an upper class who will pay for her own way. So depends where in Brasil, depends on the guy, his lingo skills, social circle/influence and game but I'd say the most important is how good is your lingo as that will get you into the better social circles and that's where the true dimes are.
