Giving up coffee

I drink 1-2 times a week, only if I get low sleep.

Don't see the point of drinking everyday unless you're getting low sleep chronically. In that case you have bigger issues to fix(your lack of sleep).

Wow, I just looked this up and it looks like coffee is pretty clearly associated with lower, later incidence of Parkinsons.

It's very mainstream as well.

It appears caffeine helps as well.

Coffee is associated with tons of good health indicators. Lower parkinsons, alzheimers, diabetes, obesity, dementia. Coffee is also linked with lower mortality, although we're talking about correlational studies so the positive effects may just be that coffee is linked to employment/busyness/high status, which is linked to health.

From Wikipedia:

The general consensus in the medical community is that moderate regular coffee drinking in healthy individuals is either essentially benign or mildly beneficial. In 2012, the National Institutes of Health–AARP Diet and Health Study analysed the relationship between coffee drinking and mortality. They found that the amount of coffee consumed correlated negatively with risk of death, and that those who drank any coffee lived longer than those who did not.[117] However the authors noted, "whether this was a causal or associational finding cannot be determined from our data."

But, I feel pretty awesome now after almost one month coffee-free. I'm sure I'll go back to drinking coffee on occasion on Dec 1, but I don't think I'll ever get back to a daily habit.

I get headaches if I don't drink it. 1-2 cups a day forever. I dont say "I cant live without it", but I dont believe it has negative health affects. I mostly sleep well. The only thing I see dangerous is the effect on dental hygiene.

Just to be clear about my own post, I don't view coffee as super unhealthy at all and I think there's a lot of evidence it has health benefits.

I only take issue with coffee drinkers engaging in groupthink to embrace and glorify dependence on it (i.e. it's cool or expected to say you can't go without coffee). I think depending on anything outside yourself for normal human functioning is something you should always take pause and consider.

I also think that as a stimulant (at least in the way most habitual drinkers use it), it is largely self-defeating, since your energy levels eventually dip down to lower than they were before you drank it in the first place. Cold water seems more ideal if you're looking for some lasting energy to start out the day.

Ironic. One day I decided to have a cup of pure black coffee and later I was getting a weird horrible shake from my left hand. If I stopped moving it it would start to shake a bit, it was so uncomfortable and lasted almost the whole day.
