Laptop DC Power Jack on the motherboard busted. I've got a tinned 40 watt Hakko on that bitch for like 6 minutes and the solder ain't melting.

You might need a hotter iron. The whole area needs to be the same temperature before the solder melts. Put a dab of flux paste on it. It helps to spread the heat.

No problem. Post a pic of it. Sometimes in mass produced boards they heat press the parts onto the solder pads. You'll probably destroy the board if you try to take the part off. It'll pull the traces right off the board. You can still fix it if you can get the solder to flow. You're on the right track. Just be careful.

Flux doesn't do anything for melting. A clean shiny fresh tip does. The crap on there dosent let the heat transfer.

Scotchbrite or steel wool works best for removing the tin but leaving the copper.

If you are trying to remove the tin from a factory robot weld for some reason it has a higher "melt" point. Hard to explain but its like it has an oxide on it. It will melt with a regular iron but you will want one of those syringe vacuums to suck the solder quickly once melted.

Also remember to tin the iron with solder before re applying so as not to heat the board too much that you are working on.

How are you going to add it if it won't liquify? If you're saying to pool it on top you minds well wait the extra ten seconds until it melts.
