Moving away long-term through Europe - Advice Needed!

I think Roosh should do a mini-book about this sort of stuff. I'd buy it for one.

Anyway, all things financially going well (I have some location independent things going on which are doing better than I forecast - and I am also making my first steps into commercial writing, as discussed on another thread) I am aiming to move away from England next year. Hopefully before June or so.

As a Brit, as long as I'm not resident in a country for longer than 90 days I don't have to pay tax. Tax is not based on nationality, like I think it is for Americans. I've factored this in, and therefore probably want to live in each place for about 2 months at a time, before I eventually settle in one city and live there for perhaps a year before moving on. I honestly can't see myself settling in a 'proper' sense until I'm like 40 or something, and that's 13 years away so I've got time.

The advice I need is, how do you find accommodation quickly once you arrive and also, I'm assuming it has to be furnished? Most accommodation is either 'short term' (few weeks) to long term (6 months +), so is finding decent apartments, for perhaps 2 months, difficult?

Any further advice on managing your money whilst abroad, ordering things online without having a debit card for that country etc would be very helpful also.

I haven't got a huge budget or anything. Perhaps £1800 ($2900) a month. If the writing kicks off, then this will be more, but I don't want to over estimate.

Airbnb is your best bet, I normally just send them what I'm willing to pay (well below the rate they ask) for a certain time period. Most accept as they'd rather have someone occupying their apartments for that time period rather than earning nothing at all.

Thanks mate. How do you find out the best spots to live, unless they're on a data sheet of course! I take it you're talking about Croatia?

Post in the travel section asking about the best spot to live in a certain city. A few people here probably have been there and just didn't drop a data sheet.

Most cities will have their own local listing website for apartments. I know Roosh wrote a while back that is how he finds his places, though not sure if he uses AirBNB now. Just Google "Bangkok Apartments" or "Warsaw Condos" or something like that.

You can also find the local expat forum, or expat Facebook group to find info on both of your questions. Most cities/countries will have a forum and/or Facebook group of expats who help each other out. In Thailand we have ThaiVisa.com as well as DS Bangkok Facebook group I believe it is called. Desperately Seeking - Bangkok. People post questions like "Where can I find a 100w halogen light bulb around Bangna?" and other crazy shit and get replies almost instantly.

Good shit on the freelance work man. Keep it up. $3,000 US a month will go very far in damn near any city you want to go.

Thanks Rio.

The $3000 a month isn't from writing, yet. I'm involved in some affiliate marketing/online betting system stuff at the moment, but that will dry up and I hope by then the writing will have taken off sufficiently enough to replace it. Some of the top commercial writers can make like $150k +, I don't envisage that happening for me just yet, but if I could make $60k (without paying tax) I'd be very happy!

Sounds good, I might have to pop over and say hello! Are you funding it with the writing, or have you got money saved or other revenue streams?

Out of curiosity, do you just message properties indicating if it's ok to get xxx amount of discount if staying for xxx amount of days?

I imagine that would be a little difficult reserving online where payment is immediately required though others on this forum have gotten around that.

No I don't ask for a discount, I just say I'm looking for a nice apartment in the centre of town and I spotted your very nice offering. I'm going to be staying for a month and the best price I can pay is £250, will this do?

They'll return back with a counter offer normally half way between yours and there's on airbnb and job done

Teedub, the best of luck with that project!
