Two things.

First, don't evaluate the Mystery Method until you've watch both seasons of The Pickup Artist. Doing so should dispel most of the silly myths about MM. Sure, Mystery dresses like weirdo on the show, but in the first episode makeovers, the contestants/students are not encouraged to do the same. They look rapidly improved after the show gives them a little style help. They don't start wearing goggles.

Second, reading the Mystery Method after repeatedly failing while running escalation game led me to realize that I was skipping a crucial step: comfort. My results improved 500% after I added the missing step between attraction and seduction.

The Mystery method will still apply 100 years from now.

In the excavating industry we'd call him "a smooth operator".
Hes smooth with the ladies.

Mystery has a comfort with the female psyche that most men can't internalize. I think he understands and connects with them on a female level.

It's the only PUA book I ever read, and this was a long long time ago. I really don't use it so much as it opened me up to game and running escalating small talk. I'm not sure whether it's explicitly 'mystery method' but it still works. I never got into the whole 'who is the best PUA' bullshit… It's just a case of finding whatever it is that helps your confidence and rolling with it.

It has two aspects. One, as you've suggested, involves tell stories and expressing opinions that make it clear that I'm not looking for easy sex and I want a serious relationship. I'll tell the story about the time I kissed a girl within a minute of meeting her, but the kiss sucked because we hadn't taken the time to build any chemistry.

The other is just putting the time being chill and not rushing to the bang. Girls can tell when you are rushing to the bang.

I'll phase into comfort game as soon as attraction is established (which doesn't generally take long, it's a split second decision for females in a lot of cases) and stay their until I get the sort of green lights necessary to proceed to the seduction stage.

I'll engage in light kino during the seduction stage just to test the waters, and if I get green lights when I do this, then I'll move into the early seduction stage by putting an arm around her or holding her hand.

But I'll still with comfort building until I get a green light. Otherwise, it always blows up in my face if I go forward with direct kino too quickly.

The experienced players can, of course, correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understand correctly the main complaint today about Mystery's approach to seduction science is that it was a little too one-dimensional. Mystery had the science of it down, and in fact was the main innovator of it, but whiffed on the lifestyle aspect of it. He was broke and his physical and emotional health wasn't very robust.

Nowadays, the focus is more on a whole-life approach to game, i.e. it's a lifestyle not a hobby that you engage in when you hit the club on a Thursday night. Your focus should be on putting game into everything you do- career, family relationships, lifestyle, athletics, fitness, and in your approaches to women. Now, you're a neomasculine, high-value, ambitious, goal-achieving, successful man. Much more than a pick-up artist.

Anyway, I personally still try to use his techniques: compliance testing, cat string / hot-cold, etc because that stuff works and Mystery deserves the credit for figuring it out an operationalizing it.

I think the emphasis on being "well-rounded" is good but kind of silly.

You don't need to be "The Most Interesting Man in the World" to get laid.

I'm using a sanitized version of MM, where I alternate between attraction and rapport (comfort), while recognizing and passing shit tests, doing kino, venue changes, all up until the pull. Like XXL mentioned above, most game will be an adapted form of what Mystery introduced.

I liked Mystery. He may have been too gimmicky for some, but I learned a lot from his book and the videos he has floating around on YouTube. I first learned of him through Neil Strauss' book "The Game" which, to be honest, was more of a memoir than the game manual I was hoping for. When I found out Mystery had his own book, I bought it and quickly read it cover-to-cover. It's very informative, although at times I think he needlessly complicates things, but the shit really does work. Would I go so far as to wear a feather boa or goggles on my head? Fuck no. But the "peacocking" concept makes sense and as others have already said, he never advocated others to do EXACTLY as he did. You have to remember, he'd wear those outlandish outfits to nightclubs/bars in Hollywood. It's not like he was running day game wearing that shit.

Who here still runs mystery method?

Hey guys, to all those familiar with the Mystery Method, I was going through it and some questions came to my mind. Hope you can provide some insights on the effectiveness of some elements of this method..

1. Negs are given a high importance to make the girl feel self conscious. For example, he may open the target's friend (obstacle) but when the target interrupts to add into the convo he might say "I am talking to her not you.' Is this kind of reply likely to turn girls off rather than the opposite effect?

2. Also, is it good frame to ask the obstacle if its ok to isolate their friend?

3. It doesnt seem as if Mystery does a lot of game going solo. For things like false time constraints, would it work if there are no friends to go back to?

4. Bouncing to eating places after leaving the drinking venue, Roosh advocates not doing so as it makes girls more sober. What are your experiences?

5. Lastly, role reversal verbal game like 'Are you always this forward/fast?' 'Lets just be friends' 'I want to get to know you better first' Have these lines ever made girls more attracted to you?

Having said this, there are some great nuggets info and observations that Mystery makes in the book which are essential to those new to game.

Thanks for the replies.

I haven't thought about this book in ages! It was one of the first pick up artist books I read. I vaguely remember it and while I think a lot of the advice is out dated or wrong or too gimmicky, the majority of it is still sound.

I haven't done club game in a long, long while but based on my experience during the time I did it.

I never found negs to be helpful. If anything, depending on how sensitive the woman is, she may be insulted which will end the interaction. Instead of negs, I found teasing to be more effective. It accomplishes the same purpose but makes you seem like a fun guy. Depends on the person though. A guy like Mystery may have been able to pull it off while a stoic, serious guy like me would have trouble with it.

False time constraints are pointless. A woman wants to talk to you or she doesn't.

You don't have to ask. Just tell the girl, come to get a drink with me, or sit on the couch with me, etc. As long as her friends think you are ok, you are good. If there are only two girls, you are not going to be able to isolate the one you want.

One of the most useful pieces of game advice I read was from Roosh in his book Day Bang where is compared women to cats and mentioned not scaring the cat. Women set the pace for when the bang happens. If you move too fast, you'll scare the cat and the interaction will end. If you are talking to a woman at the bar and you can tell she down to bang, then don't go to a place for food. Just close the deal. If she's not sure about you yet, then I wouldn't recommend food. Go to another bar for more drinks.

Role reversal game is just teasing and yes, it's effective. But people put too much emphasis on teasing. Teasing is like 5-10% of what you should focus on. 90-95% should be being a cool interesting guy.

Yep. Working on comfort has help reduced the "buyers remorse" girls seemed to always experience after a SNL with me. I would get the pull but I could never manage to retain the girl, sometimes the girl would just completely ghost me the very next day. upon working on comfort, I am starting to actually build a semblance of a harem and have girls at my beck-and-call.

Grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference

There is no getting around qualification, comfort, attraction etc. Barring extreme circumstances, its in every lay.

@Honan

Yes. Mystery backwards engineered how people get laid. It's more like mystery's model than *his* method. If Mystery never came up with this, it'd still work this way.

Every man gets a woman's attention
Every man demonstrates his value to attract her.
Then only *after* he has attracted her, can he show his own interest.

If you show your interest before her, she thinks your needy. That's why betas fail.

If you don't give her comfort, she might be attracted, but doesn't trust you enough to bang you.

What guys don't take from Mystery and realize is that *behavior* is deeply attractive to women. looks are attractive, money is, height...But but behavior more so.

That's what A2, the demonstration of high value is, behavior. You can't do that without a woman's attention. A1. Behavior is not the only way, in fact it's less preferred by society. Society wants tall, rich, six pack, jacked, pretty boys to get the best mates. Triggering a girl's feelings for you through behavior alone is "bad."

We pass laws against it.
Statutory rape is about example.

Abuse of power or position is another.

If an unworthy boss sleeps with his intern, or a grizzled professor bangs a coed, she's not attracted to him on the basis of what society wants, but because his dominion and authority over her MAKES him attractive.

Like a bartender, that lectern puts a guy in a position that makes girls wet. Take the bartender out of the bar, and he might not have the same situational confidence, behavior, or access to women.

The older man with very strong internal beliefs, has the manly behavior that is often attractive to young women. Even when she's surrounded by men closer and more biologically fit. She can't help her attraction.

But Men are deeply attracted to appearance and can't possibly believe that these illogical women are wired differently. Few ever let that go. Their core appearance hardly changes, but they start getting laid. Somehow their own lives are not proof that Mystery was right.

It's frustrating to read would be players dis his observations, and fail to fully realize his teachings and what they mean.

What he said needs refinement, especially 1) all that stuff about survival and replication 2) the discrete nature of each stage - but the sequence never changes. The casual relationships never change.

You can explain most sexual encounters with his observations.

Exactly, he didn't invent it, he broke it down and made a step by step model around it. The beauty of it is that it lets us know where we stand in a process at any given time and what to do next. if you take a girl's hand and she doesn't hold on to your hand it's a signal you're in attraction stage cause she's not comfortable even with such innocent touching.

I recommend to look at the general overview of the M3 model instead of nitpicking silly details like openers or stories.

1) Negs are misunderstood
- even using a neg is counter to blue pill/square thinking
- what a neg actually is, ranges from straight up insults to not letting a girl finish her dumb story
- in context, the neg was designed for the bitchy chick in VIP, not some random chick you run up on. Miss Priss is full of herself and everyone around her is catering to her.

I just read a real good example

Player is in some very chic art space.
He sees a cute chick surrounded by hangers on.
He goes in to holler at the chick, and some female orbiter tries to throw salt in his game

"Do you even know who she is"

Without stuttering, he says "Yes, but do you know who I am?"

The guard dog didn't know how to handle that, he got in to the conversation and then banged the prize.

This was a neg, in that he asserted that his value was higher than the target, and he had the behavior and body language to back it up.

The point of the neg is to basically disrupt the weird social bubble that inflates around a hot girl in the night club environment. That's when you do that level of neg

Night game guys get this. They see it. A nobody chick who lives with three other chicks in a 2 bedroom apartment becomes the equivalent of a CEO, celebrated veteran, superstar ninja at the club. She's a nobody when she gets her license renewed or when her card gets declined.

As men we've been taught that our value is naturally low, and every female is more valuable than any male. And you've got all these people trying to keep you in line on that.

Telling the emperor that she's not wearing any clothes? That's a sin. Most of the time guys aren't dealing with this level/scenario of entitlement.

But do understand, you'll find 6's with this level of entitlement, and orbiters feeding those egos. Calibrate your attempt to break her sense of entitlement.

2) in a 2 set, you can ask if you want, but now the obstacle girl is by herself.

A good friend that likes you, and thinks the target should get to know you, will go find something to do. It's rare.

Ideally you have a good wing.

What Mystery would do is run game on the room. Before isolating the target in a 2 set, he'd merge the two set with a nearby group. Then he could isolate if he wanted to.

If you understand group theory, he would run the room, and other chicks would see his social proof, and want to get in on the action. If you get women, the obstacle and the target would be okay with getting some attention. The problem then becomes the obstacle wanting you to, as opposed to not wanting to be alone

3) false time constraint is not because he has friends, but hot chicks are always being pestered by guys that won't leave. My friends are on the way is a social signal that they won't be stuck with you.

4) I've always bounced. Club then grub, then convenience store because there is nothing to drink at my place. It builds trust. Plus o I want to bang a sober chick.

5) yes.

Had a chick back at the spot, she said accusingly all you want to do I'd have sex.

What makes you think I want to sleep with you?

Caught her entirely off guard. Banged her later. During debrief, my rejection of her turned her on.

Within your initial rap, a "Is she always like this? Lol Can't take you nowhere, what am I gonna do with you" is a neg, future projection, and humor all at once.

Works like gangbusters.

All of this goes back to the essence

The point of game is getting that girl to emotionally react to you through your behavior. Full range, shallow and deep.

It's the whirlwind feelings that she finds attractive. And she's not deliberating this, it's not a conscious process on her part.

You open/get her attention

You dhv, by words, actions, inaction, by just being sometimes

She shows her interest. She will test.
You make her invest
She has to win you over.

Attraction achieved

Then you isolate and shift gears, get her to trust you.

Handle the obstacles.

Get her home, and commence the romance

Who here still runs mystery method?

As an addition to this thread I feel that the 2 seasons on 'The pickup artist' are incredibly helpful to the newbie and I concur with someone else in the forum who said these should be watched by a beginner first before he delves into Roosh's or Mystery' books. Especially, the live footage that is taken of the contestants doing night and to a lesser extent daygame. That's the Mystery Method being applied in practice and it's amazing how things typically said by guys not aware to game results in a cold shoulder from girls. Another great thing is the solo approaches done by the guys on large sets and we can learn how to actually do it step by step live and how a girl or a group of girls might react to it.

The episodes start from opening to end game. Its a good way for beginners to pace themselves and sort of visualise how their posture and demeanour might/should seem when they deliver game. Some of Mystery's lines outrageous as it might seem, are actually well received by girls. And note that the first season is shot in Austin, so its probably an above average friendliness/receptiveness of girls as compared to the rest of the USA that we might be seeing there.

In my opinion Mystery Method is still the best possible introduction to game.

It lets you see exactly what you're doing wrong which is probably everything if you're a newbie. It taught me a lot of elements I still use in every single approach I do.

False time constraint - Simple and extremely effective. Use it every time.

Bodyrocking - Also simple and extremely effective. Use it almost every time.

LMR - Just being aware of it and what it means. Game changer.

Separating attraction and comfort - Essential.
