I was wondering, while talking to the girl during the day or night, wouldn't it sound a bit odd if you directly asked, "where do you live?"

I'm talking using the exact line as in the book, Day Bag, "where do you live?"

Instead of asking:where do you live? you can ask: are you from this city? If you are more comfortable with that.

I suppose if you live in a small town, yes it would a bit unnecessary as it is implied she lives there. Nonetheless, I feel that asking where she lives is more to build comfort and rapport then it is to actually gather information in the case of GALNUC, where at night asking where she lives is good for determining logistics. Remember with day game you're just being a friendly, charming guy having a nice chat. Saying "So where do you live" after talking for a few minutes shouldn't come off as odd, just simply getting to know someone.
