I see lots of articles from the Daily Mail get linked constantly - not just on here but also on social media but I keep hearing about how in the UK where it's published that it is considered essentially to be on the same level as the gossip rags you'll find in the check out sections of the supermarket. Is this true? I know that a lot of leftists tend not to be fond of it but what about the average person on the street in the UK who isn't inclined towards extreme opinions? What's their general impression of the Daily Mail?
Is the Daily Mail legit?
My general impression of the daily mail is that their pieces are hit or miss. When they hit, they nail it. When they miss, it is comically so. Almost as if to make a parody to further point over the head of the average feminist or leftist said article is "targeted" at.

More often than not its the latter. There's a reason why lots of people refer to it as the Daily Fail

It is a large and respected newspaper with an admirable circulation and some solid reporting on politics and economy. But most of it is just hamster material. These newspapers are not stupid. They know what part of the public is buying them, and will not kill the golden goose in the interest of truth. It's the prime proof for the fact that it is not the media who shape women, it's women who shape the media.

The website and the paper are totally different teams, the paper itself is fairly consistent, the website is based around churning out fluffy 'news' and opinion-based content.
They have no issues with taking every single side on a given issue to get clicks - e.g:
Muslim culture should be respected
Muslim culture is toxic to this country
It's a very clever strategy - people tend to ignore things that miss, but remember the 'hits', so they think it tends to agree with their positions.

What Murdoch taught businesspeople about newspapers was that you don't improve sales by publishing higher quality content.
In fact, the baser and more salacious the material, the better the sales.
You also save money on having to send journalists overseas or pay above the mean for reputable intellects from top universities.
Daily Mail editorship would have heeded these lessons. Another thing I noticed about Daily Mail is 9 out of 10 articles have negative headlines.
Common themes: "welfare recipients taking taxpayers for a ride", "immigrants on benefits taking everyone for a ride", "women are bitchy and judgmental in the workforce", "are beautiful women at a disadvantage?", "politicians are scamming the taxpayer", "celebrity couple ends in divorce", "this man cheated on dozens of married women", "why your children lack morality".

The Daily Mail focuses on sensational/gossip type stories. It's viewed in the UK as only slightly above the gossip rags in terms of reputation. People who want to be perceived as intellectual would not be caught dead holding it.
Also it's a chick newspaper - Quote from wikipedia "It was, from the outset, a newspaper for women, being the first to provide features especially for them,[7] and is the only British newspaper whose readership is more than 50 percent female, at 53 percent"

True. However, most "intellectuals" read the Guardian which I think is disgusting with it's bias and hard leftist authoritarianism sometimes.

Guardian is a pile of socialist shit.
Daily Mail is a pile of right wing fascist shit.

The Daily Mail tube map (not actually a map) conveys the obsessions of the paper accurately. I should know, I look at it most days (don't ask).
It's a step above The Sun and Mirror, for C's and D's on the socioeconomic scale; women who like a bit of moral outrage and celebrity titillation along with the hamster fodder.

Brits need to start piping in Fox News to get some fair and balanced news. Everything else you watch like BBC and DM is inaccurate, like our CNN.
